2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
In 2010 their is several good young lineman that could be pricey, but obviously needed if we want to see Cutler develope.
Here's who I would target, these 3 are unrestricted Free Agents.
Kansas City Chiefs Center : Rudy Niswanger: 6'5 320 Starting for his first time this year and is really playing as good as any center in the NFL. The Chiefs coaches/Media are saying he's their best/most consistent lineman. He's young, powerful, nasty, and makes all the line calls to a Tee. He hasn't given up a sack yet. I watched a Chiefs game a few weeks back and the TV announcers we're saying this guy is their best lineman and one of the best in the AFC and one of the only bright spots on the Chiefs offense this year.
Tampa Bay Bucs: Right Tackle Jeremy Trueblood 6'6 325 pounds of nastiness. Kick Chris Williams and his finesse pass blocking ( Which has been solid in my opinion) to Left tackle where he belongs. Trueblood would be our enforcer and would be a perfect run blocking mauler the Turner Power O requires at the Right Tackle position.
St. Louis Rams: Right Guard Richie Incognito 6'5 330. He's a heck of a run blocker and is improving his pass blocking technique which is already solid. He's on a horrible offense team and bad offensive line which makes all of them look bad. The guy would look great in in a Bears unigorm, knocking lineman around and this guy plays to the whistle, something no one this team does offensively except Josh Beekman.
Garza would be a backup on any other team just like he was in Atlanta. Omiyale will be a solid backup LT and Kreutz will still be on the team, just on the bench. His enforcer/nasty style of playing is ancient history. He will provide great leadership and be a good experienced backup. James Martin could be the backup swing tackle and we have gotten better, while still keeping experienced backups.
Our starting line will be
C.Williams-J.Beekman-R.Niswanger-R.Incognito-J.Trueblood
Our backups
Omiyele Louis- Kreutz- Garza- Martin
Turners offensive scheme needs the size.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
Good post and well written: Think Trueblood could be a guy worth looking at, JA has a special place in his heart for BC Linemen. James Marten on PC will get a chance to compete before all is said and done, JA likes him coming out of college and finally nabbed him. Possible center replacement for Kreutz if they leave Beekman at LG is another BC center, Matt Tennant out of BC. Could be a guy JA targets in April draft. Just my opinion, does not mean JA will do anything.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
Everything I have heard about Incognito is that he isn't as good as people make him out to be.
I'll pass on him. Don't know enough about the others.

funsize1984:i like it. it works fine with me
except for that Turner part. we need a better, upgraded Oline, that's for certain... Turner, we don't need.
in fact, we need him GONE!

Great Post, but If your going to replace Kreutz you have to cut him or hope he retires. You don't want to upset the morale in the locker room by sitting him on the bench.

If he recognizes his declining skills, he may be satisfied to take a back-up role to stay in the game. There are many players that would take that role in order to remain part of the team.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
Here's a few more that would be worth looking at.
Marcus McNeill, San Diego Chargers (25)
Jared Gaither, Baltimore Ravens (23)
Winston Justice, Philadelphia Eagles (24)
Deuce Lutui, Arizona Cardinals (26)

Just having some fun( Being sarcastic because no response). I think there's a good chance a lot of upcoming FA's will test free agency because of the NFLPA contract or lack of one. They could get tagged but these teams their on have some big name free agents that they will use on them. If there was any year it's 201 because it more them likely will be uncapped.

I think Justice sucks. I remember Pegger talking about him. Eh...maybe he's marginal. McNeil was good if I recall, but I don't think he makes it out of SD. Gaither will be a Restriced FA.

Isn't he the guy that gave up 7 sacks in one game to Umenyiora?

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
Carns:Trueblood and Incognito could possibly test free agency, which is what Angelo seems geared up for, but if Niswanger is as good as you say he is(or think), I doubt KC will let him go, or even give him the chance to test the waters.
Other than that, Turner and, hopefully, his scheme won't be here come March 2010.
everything i've seen and read indicates that trueblood is nothing more then an average RT...
as far as ingognito, the guy isn't that good to begin with, then you add in the fact that he's a retarded head case who can't control himself on the field and i really can't see any reason why we'd want him...

I didn't mean to indicate that I thought Angelo was targetting those two in particular in free agency, just that all of his decisions thus far says he is going to make a splash come March.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
I don't get why the Bears don't do this: Why not fire all the O-linemen on the team and just hire Japanese Grand Master Sumo Wrestlers? You get 5 of those big boys up front and go to town.. Think of all the records Forte could break!
The Bears will be Superbowl Contenders in 2009. Mark my words.--me 01-14-09 Damn, was I wrong.--me 11-09-09 Ladies and Gentlemen, Jay Cutler.

awesome job but chances are 1 or 2 of them don't make it to the open market and if there's no cap are we really gonna outspend some owners like Al Davis who need OL help as much as we do?

You're right, Justice is the guy that Umenyiora ate alive. I just looked up a list of FA tackles. They were some names that stood out. The only one I've seen a lot is Lutui and he's probaby above average at best. We need somebody. If I had the answers, I'd have a different career right?

This is also Niswanger's fourth season, so if the CBA isn't reached, he won't be a FA.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
All I know is JA is planning on picking up quite a few FAs. He also doesn't seem to have much interest talking to Turner about an extension either.
At least, he should be considering we are going to have a ton of money to spend and no early draft picks to sign.
