As far as I can see on their roster / retirement it is.
pdxbears:Is 51 retired? Butkus is a legend, Singletary was simply great.
Yes, Butkus' jersey is retired.
Thank the gods.
cheech: [edit] Chicago Bears 3 -- Bronko Nagurski 5 -- George McAfee 7 -- George Halas 28 -- Willie Galimore 34 -- Walter Payton 40 -- Gale Sayers 41 -- Brian Piccolo 42 -- Sid Luckman 51 -- Dick Butkus 56 -- Bill Hewitt 61 -- Bill George 66 -- Bulldog Turner 77 -- Red Grange Butkus' #51 was reissued to linebacker Jim Morrissey in the 1980s before it was retired for Butkus in 1994. The #50 worn by Mike Singletary has not been reissued since his retirement following the 1992 season.
SAYERS5140:Butkus and Sayers both had their jerseys retired at Soldier Field on a very rainy Monday night, Halloween to be exact, 10-31-94. there is no doubt in my mind that Singletary's #50 will be the next one to be retired. in fact i don't think anyone has worn that # since his retirement. In fact the Bears have more retired # than any other team in the league, and are third on the list of all Professional sports franchises behind only the Boston Celtics[22] the New York Yankees [19], they are in some pretty good company there!
Thanks everybody. Reading these posts has been a valuable lesson in Bears' history. Mike Singletary was a gentleman off the field and a monster on the gridiron. I'm all in favour of having his no. 50 retired. Long live Mike Singletary. Today, I love watching linebackers Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs in action. However, they don't compare to what Mike Singletary amounted to.

Mistakenly, #40 was put next to Walter Payton. I'm sure that was an oversight, as the other names and numbers were accurate. Sweetness #34!!
Thanks,
Go Bears!!
Sorry Cheech. My eyes must be dyslexic, seeing names in front of numbers instead of the way it is written.
go Bears!!
