Smith: We will be pleased with the winner of the QB competition

    http://www.nwherald.com/bears/story.php?storyid=460

Quarterback derby: Phillips, Smith and general manager Jerry Angelo addressed a large crowd of fans Saturday morning.

Smith said he expects to settle on Rex Grossman or Kyle Orton as the starting quarterback going into the fourth preseason game. "You will be pleased" with the winner of the competition, Smith said.

Do they both look better in practice or coach speak?

Unless we manage to kidnap Peyton Manning or Tom Brady and slap him in a Bears uniform, I don't know how EVERYONE will be pleased with our QB.

Caleb Hanie is our quarterback. It's satirical however, for those of you too dumb to distinguish seriousness from sarcasm.

QB will be just fine this year, prepair for the yar of dink and dunk. Write that down I may refence it mid way thru the season.

I have no problem with a dink and dunk passes, as long as he can complete about 10-15% more of those short passes than either of our present competitors have done.

You do realize that both QBs had around a 54% completion rate last season?  So you'll be satisfied with them up around 64-69% completion rate?  Can we help them out a little with that and get some receivers that don't drop quite so many balls?

Yes I know that, and yes, that is the completion rate I expect from 'dink and dunk' QB's. At no time am I giving kudo's to Grossman over Orton on their poor completion rate in 2007. You DO realize the other QB accused of being a 'dink and dunk' Qb in 2007 completed 61.5% of his passes in 2007, (and even more if the they would have considered passes to DB's as completions as well)embarrassed [*emb*]

But our receivers didn't drop 10% to 15% of the passes thrown to them, and I'm pretty sure that with an entire new WR set, that we DID get new receivers.

Hmmm, this is an older thread, and if you don't want to read QB threads, then you really shouldn't read the threads in the QB FORUM.

I checked, and passers last season with completion rates of 64% and up were in the neighborhood of Tony Romo and Carson Palmer.  Didn't they have receivers like T.O. and "Ocho Cinco?"

Re: Smith: We will be pleased with the winner of the QB competition

The following QB's had completion percentages over 64% in 2007

Brady, Pennington, Brees, Favre, Schaub, P. Manning, Roethlisberger, Palmer, Rosenfels, and Garrard.

The following had completion percentages within 1 point of 64%

    Garcia, Cutler, and Kitna.

That's 14 of the 32 ranking QB's who had almost 10 % points or more than Grossman and Orton.

Yes, I will remain thrilled if our 'dink and dunk' QB can be in the top half of the NFL QB's

    Rankings by Completion %

And one major thing I disagree with most posters is it's more often the QB makes the WR, than the WR who makes the QB. A good QB hit's his WR's in the hands more often than any WR goes up and takes a bad throw out of the air.
