QuarterBacks- Who should the Bears take a look at in the draft?

List the QB's that you would like the Bears to take a look at in the draft?

    Tim Tebow, Florida

    Matthew Stafford, Georgia

    Sam Bradford, Oklahoma

    Dan LeFevour, Central Michigan

    Graham Harrell, Texas Tech

    Edwards, Armanti, Appalachian State

    Max Hall, BYU

Bradford, should be the 1st one the Bears target.

Tebow? If you can't get Bradford.

I'm not big on Stafford unless he improves this year on his lousy 55% passing comp. from last year.

The others?  Maybe in later rounds.

Re: QuarterBacks- Who should the Bears take a look at in the draft?

    1. Hunter Cantwell, Louisville
      Height: 6'5 - Weight: 230
Cantwell has the size and arm strength of a pro QB. He just has to prove he can play every week.
    2. Tim Tebow, Florida
      Height: 6'3 - Weight: 235
Tebow looked good throwing the ball last season, but needs to prove he can sit in the pocket most downs and throw the ball acc
    3. Curtis Painter, Purdue
      Height: 6'4 - Weight: 223
When he's on, Painter is as good as any QB in this group. The problem is he's too streaky, not just from game to game, but from quarter to quarter.

Re: QuarterBacks- Who should the Bears take a look at in the draft?

Stafford is my favorite off that list, followed by LeFevour. Edwards has a ways to go as a QB before he's considered as a QB prospect.

One guy I really like that won't be a real high draft pick: Stephen McGee, Texas A&M. He's not the biggest, fastest, or strongest, but he's a solid athlete with a good arm, and a lot of experience in a tough conference. He's being phased out by Jerrod Johnson because he was hurt and Johnson has played well.

Sophomore year: 62% completion, 12 TDs/2 INTs, 666 yards rushing
Junior year: 58% completion, 12 TDs/8 INTs, 899 yards rushing

Basically reminds me of what the Bears want their QBs to be...a "game manager" who limits mistakes but can make plays as well. He's got mobility, similar to a Tony Romo or maybe a little better athlete...I think he'll be a solid QB in the NFL.

You know as well as I do that what the Bears want and what the Bears need are two different things..McGee wouldn't be a bad mid-to late round guy but I sure hope we're thinking bigger.

Conference of One: The USC Trojans were well represented on the first day of the 2008 NFL Draft, with seven overall selections in the first 2 rounds. In comparison, the twelve teams from the SEC combined had just eight players drafted on day 1.

I completely agree. I wish we would go all or nothing with a Stafford, or a guy like that at the top of the draft. Most of the "marquee" QBs available this year are juniors or even RS sophomores (Bradford). As much as I like some of them, it's iffy as to whether they'll come out or not...

Honestly, I hope we go for Stafford. If he's not there, Bradford. If neither of them are, Cantwell and Harper are decent options, but not top tier guys, IMO.

Personally, Mark Sanchez is my pick at QB, and if he comes out, do what you have to to get that guy on the Chicago Bears.

wont matter till we get a system that allows a qb to be sucessful....  with turner we could blow through another 20 qbs, and say each is worse than the next...

    Bradford...
as a sophomore he has a 79 completion percentage right now...
if we could get him somehow, I would be ecstatic.  This is the kind of kid you build a team around.

Oujia:  I have been watching Max Hall alot but Im in Japan so its a little bit tougher to see..!!

But from my limited view he seems to have the quickest release Ive seen in college since Rex..!!

I dont know about his arm strength but his release is nice..!!  I wish I could better evaluate him,

but thats not possible from highlites..!!  If he is mentally tough I think he may be a winner his stats

are unbelieveable..!!  How many years has he played 2-3 I dont know, been in Japan for a year n

    1/2..!!

Also like Bradford, but wonder if  he is another Lineart..!!  How is his arm strength..??

I liked Haper until this year..!!  Clemson may need to just go to Willie Corn..!!

    Tebow great FB..!!  LOL..!!

I like Rudy Carpenter may be a poor mans Jay Cutler,  or better Jake Plummer..!!

Sanchez is nice also..!!  Havent seen Painter,  but Mizzou QB maybe Drew Brees but no

I love these silly post about qbs, and who we should get next year. The season isn't over. What we need is depth on the o-line and an OC that doesn't out think himself. We have a qb that gets better every week, yet no one can seem to get it. Next year? Hey mr A.D.D follow this season and stop dreaming about the DRAFT.

Re: QuarterBacks- Who should the Bears take a look at in the draft?

Whoever suggested that Bradford does not possess a strong arm must not be watching the games.  Go back to week one.  He rolls out right and throws an absolute bullet 30 yard pass to the sideline to Manual Johnson.  He throws an awesome deep ball, and is very, very accurate in the mid range game.  Basically, he has all of the good attributes of Kyle Orton(short game), and all of the good qualities of Rex(deep passes).  It is a moot point though.  He will not be entering the draft this year, and it wouldn't surprise me if he stayed for the whole 5 years.

Re: QuarterBacks- Who should the Bears take a look at in the draft?

I'm really high on LeFevour after watching him play over the past year.  He has great instincts and runs when he needs to.  You could build one hell of an offense around him with playmakers like Hester and Olsen.  I also think he'll be a later round pick (3-4) so we can avoid blowing a first rounder on him and take something a little more worthwhile...  Say offensive line?

While I like Tebow, I think he projects a lot better as a TE in the NFL.  It's obvious this season that's he hasn't rushed as much because he's trying to work on his passing.  The guy is built for both postions, but in an NFL offense he's going to have a lot of trouble making throws that he's never made at Florida.  I have my doubts, although I could be round.  Definitely not a top 5 pick either way.

Hall is efficient, has good accuracy, and plays in a pro-style offense. My questions about him are his size, and competition. He really hasn't played anyone.

I like Bradford for much of the same reasons. I don't think he is lacking in arm-strength as much as he just doesn't have a cannon. He's more like Drew Brees than Brett Favre in that regard.

Harper, the jury is still out. Painter is a dead-end in my opinion. To me, Carpenter has major question marks.

Re: QuarterBacks- Who should the Bears take a look at in the draft?

The kid Colt McCoy from Texas looks really good. He has a 65% QB rating. Plus he can run. So he can make plays with his feet as well as his arm.

He won't start next year anyway so let's get a young stud QB in our rotation and dump Rex Grossman, his time in Chicago is over.

    The QB rotation could be:

    Starter - Kyle Orton

    2nd - Caleb Hanie

    3rd - Rookie 2nd or 3rd Round QB

Re: QuarterBacks- Who should the Bears take a look at in the draft?

This is dependant on how you see our QBs turning out & when certain QBs come out of college. I'd like to plan on getting Sam Bradford like some previous posters. I very much doubt that he comes out this year, but wouldn't be shocked if he comes out in 2010. Reason behind this is that he will lose two key members of his o-line (Robinson & Loadholt) in the 2009 draft plus his go to WR (Iglesias). His stock will drop slightly as a result and he comes out in 2010 before it sinks completely.

If that's the case then you need to plan for 2009. Scenario 1 is that Hanie gets enough junk time at the end of the season to be confident enough to have him at number two. If this is the case then you can draft a mid round QB to be the 3rd string. Then you are looking at the likes of Cantwell, Brandstater, Hall, McCoy et al.

Scenario 2 is similar in that Hanie doesn't get the time & it is decided to replace him at 3rd string and demote him to PS. Again your looking to draft a QB.

Scenario 3 keeping Hanie as 3rd string then you need to have some experience at 2nd string (look at the potential mess at GB as a warning) which means retaining Rex at 2nd string or bringing in another vet.

I would be using the 2009 first round pick on Duke Robinson & would take a good look at Iglesias. If planning to make a run at Bradford some instant chemistry with some familiar faces wouldn't be a bad thing & having Robinson at guard will do wonders for Forte in the running game.

Re: QuarterBacks- Who should the Bears take a look at in the draft?

Painter is having a senior season to forget as he  has made bad decision after bad decision. If Andre Woodson can lead the Kentucky Wildcats to 8-4 at a perennial loser. This guy might not come off the board until the 2nd day.

Tim Tebow has taken too much of a beating, he no longer has the cape as teams are finally targetting him in the SEC. His rush yards will thankfully come down, but the flipside is his Vince Young like release might scare some teams away.

Personally I think 2 of the best QBs are in the Big 12

    SAYERS5140:
    1. Hunter Cantwell, Louisville
