Floyd, Danks, TCQ, The Cuban Missle...Kenny is pretty good.

Yeah, looking back on the two pitcher trades again:

-Gavin Floyd (and Gio who was used as good trade bait for Swish) for Freddie Garcia

-John Danks, Nick Masset for B-Mac

Both trades at the time were somewhat contraversial. Yeah, I think we can all agree Kenny got the better of them. KWs probably sitting in his throne, laughing it up right now.

I was pissed with both of the trades......but I was also upset when we traded Olivo for Garcia so what do I know.  My logic now is if Kenny makes a move and I hate it, then we're in good shape.

    Meanwhile, pitching continues to slide.

And what the hell's up with Masset? Good Lord, get it together for f*ck's sake.

Holy Crap!!!  Sox trade for Ken Griffey Jr.  Don't know what we gave up yet, but hopefully it's the intials PK.  There's gotta be other moves.  Dye is set in right, TCQ is set in left, Griffey hasn't played center in years.  Don't know if I'm excited about this just yet.  Kenny Williams do yo thang!.

Re: Official 2008 White Sox thread

Was just about to friggin' post about this meself. To me anyway, and we all know how valuable Al Michael's opinion is, if Griffey okays the trade, I'd have to think it's gotta do something with Big Paulie. Should he be the reason, I'm telling Jr. to play 1st base cause he hasn't played CF in a couple of years, and when he was there, he was far from spectacular. Besides, it looks as though Swish is adapting well out there.

We'll see if KW can finally land Jr. We all know how much he's wanted in previous years.

Also reported was that the Sox were looking to acquire Huston Street from the A's...whoa, I don't even want to think of what they'd have to give up for him, but if KW does it, gee golly.

In other interesting trade news, in addition to big names like Roids McGee Ivan Rodriguez (pff, he ain't no Pudge) to the Yanks, and Teixiera to the Angels (whoa, Angels are the best, and they just got a bit scarier), Manny Ramirez is apparently close to being dealt to the Marlins in a 3-way trade.

A couple of big names flying around.

Awesome victory last night. Gavin tossed one helluva game. And can we say anything more about Quentin? Mercy!

Ya see that wall-splat Swish made in RF? Hahaha, his reaction to the smelling salt was great. Herm "Teets" Schnieder kept sliding it under his nose. Swish is one goofy mo-fo.

I live for Big Al's opinions!

Yeah, Paulie has to go bye-bye or sit.  5 LOB last night.  Guys a walking GIDP or fly out.

I liked Swish at 1st because when PK went on DL and Swish went to 1st he started hitting, but Jr. at 1st is a good alternative because I don't want him injurying himself in the outfield.  Supposedly, the Reds message boards were rife with rumors about Brian Anderson being wanted in the trade, which would sadden me no end because I still think that guy has a shot a being the real deal if he can play everyday.

Street coming here would be bonerific.  Start spreading some of that starting pitching this way, A's!

Pudge Rodriguez going to the Yanks only reinforces what we all know.  The Yanks will always do what it takes to get the job done.  Manny leaving the red sox is awesome!  ESPN is in love with the red sox, him and Ortiz so that will be in the news for a long time while they mourn the splitting up of that duo.

I live out here in Portland, OR so cant' catch local games that aren't on WGN nor want to sit at a computer to watch the games so have to rely on highlights on the Sox website.  That crash by Swish looked nasty at first. It didn't show the smelling salts though.  Must have been a hoot.

Quentin, Ramirez, Dye are my heroes this year.

    Go Sox, baby!!

True about Swish. He really seemed to pick up his game when PK went on the DL and he was moved infield. You also notice how...well, at least after the Oz tirade, the offense was more consistant? I love PK, but...I mean, c'mon guy, wake up!

As far as BA and the Reds are concerned, those rumors appear to be legitimate. They really want to move their stud Jay Bruce away from there, and implant BA--who's defense is ridiculous. I too always thought he had something to offer, but too many players (in this case, OFs) means too many people not playing, BA being one of them. There's no denying his speed and defense. If only his bat would've woken up a bit (say, a .260-70 AVG), there's no doubt he'd be starting. Hell, if he hit like that, they probably wouldn't have gone out and got Swish.

As far as Street, yeah, Al too got this funny, unexplained feeling in the pants region when he heard about that.

And I can't even imagine how much time ESPN would be spend on Manny if he were actually dealt...it's actually quite sickening to think about.

Whew, busy day for the White Sox thread.

    http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080731&content_id=3230579&vkey=news_cws&fext=.jsp&c_id=cws

Danny Richar and this years pain in the neck, Nick Masset, are going to the Reds.   It also mentions Street.  This is getting good.

Re: Official 2008 White Sox thread

I remember Richar was supposed to be the 2B of the future. Ramirez quickly came in and said "Danny who?"

Now that Masset's gone, I wonder who will be playing the long relief role. I think it'll probably be Clayton Richard, although I think it'd be fun to see Charlie Haeger called up for that role. A knuckleballer relief pitcher? Haha, I love it.

It says Andy Peroda will probably be the one coveted most by the A's. If that's the case, I say "No way, Mr. Beane". Methinks Peroda's something special. I don't know, I'd definately think twice before shipping him away. And if the A's want him, you know there's something good about him.

Definately a great trade for the Sox for the stretch run as long as Griffey stays healthy.  Is he still good enough to man center field?  I can't see Dye or Quentin in center.

And Andy Peroda is also the name the Rockies reportedly would want for Brian Fuentes.

As far as Ramirez, I selfishly was hoping that he'd be the Sox's starting SS next season (for the sake of my fantasy team).  My lineup was going to look like this:  C--Geovany Soto, 1B--D-Lee, 2B--Brian Roberts, SS--Alexei Ramirez, 3B--Josh Fields, OF--Carlos Quentin, OF--Carl Crawford, OF--Bobby Abreu, Util.--Johnny Damon, Bench--James Loney

If Ramirez plays at 2B next year that screws up my whole plan.  sad [*sad*]

Apparently, KW wants to find out as Jr. is gonna be playing Center.

In terms of Alexei, I think the Sox might try and acquire O-Cab for another year or 2. Ramirez has been solid at 2nd, and moving him to Short would mean a huge change--something I don't think Ramirez would be able to handle.

Say, how is your fantasy team doing this year anyway?

Re: Official 2008 White Sox thread

Yeah, exluding Zquez's last start, it seems to me the two youngsters are pitching like vets and the vets are pitching like stupid rookies.

Meanwhile, what, 19 runs given up to KC in 2 games? That, and an embarrassing "brawl" to boot? Get it together.

EDIT: As Al types this, Sox continue to blunder against the Tigers. These guys are looking like amatuers.

EDIT 2: Apparently the Sox heard my griping--we all know everyone tries to adhere to Al's standards--and have tied it up via a Ramirez long-ball.
