For those of you familiar with the northern suburbs, at the corner of Rt. 45 and Gages Lake Road in Grayslake there is a dive bar called the Midnight Blue, and next to it is a little hot dog stand. Over the years this place has had a high turnover of would-be fast food joints usually lasting a year or two. I'd say there have been at least a dozen or so attempts to operate a successful stand there since Sqweenys Weenies (the last decent stand) was there in the early 90's. I've tried most of them once, and most of the time I never made a second trip back. But there's a new owner who has been operating there since April, Sneaky Pete's, and I tried it over last weekend and I have to say that their Chicago style hot dog AND their italian beef were both very good. They remodeled the entire kitchen and bathroom. They have no indoor seating and only a few outside tables where you have to battle the yellowjackets hovering around your food, but I was impressed enough that I will definately be back. IMO they have one of the better hot dogs and beef sandwiches in the far north suburbs.
