Re: Blackhawks 09-10 Season Thread
After a surprising 2-0 loss at Nashville, the Blackhawks showed how good they are last night. The Blackhawks have an amazing team at it was a team effort that got it done against the Canadiens. There was Patrick Sharp's game-winning goal, Cam Barker's goal on the power-play, Andrew Ladd's thunderous hit on Matt D'Agostini And Kris Versteeg receiving the game's first star.
With a significant history in Montreal, it was strange seeing Cristobal Huet on the other side. It was his first time in three tries that he beat his former team. His time in Washington doesn't really matter since he was just there for a few months. Chicago fans have been tough on him. While it was nice to see him come through, I wish the Canadiens would have won the game.
It was important for me to use the Blackhawks forum today considering that this is their only clash of the season. The NHL should definitely look into this blemish.
Even though this forum is for the Chicago Blackhawks, I must say that the Canadiens must beat the Maple Leafs tonight. My city is loaded with people from Leaf Nation and I wouldn't hear the end of it if the Leafs were to emerge victorious. Plus, the Leafs have an abysmal hockey team. There's no excuse for the Canadiens to blow this one.

thicknthin:I`m glad to see Huet playing better. I hope Toews gets back soon.
GO HAWKS!
Hawks don't play again until Thursday so he's got plenty of time to rest. I assume he got a concussion, and I know from experience concussions are no fun at all. Hopefully he doesn't get post-concussive syndrome which will keep him out a lot longer.

I welcome fans from any other team as long as they come to talk hockey and not just try and stir the pot. We Chicagoans have been hard on Huet, but until recently he hadn't done anything to make us believe he's worth his money. If he plays the rest of the year like he has the last 3 games the Hawks can ride him to the cup, but if he goes back to bad Huet we'll struggle in the playoffs. He's let in insanely soft goals(like one that bounced off the glass in the corner and into the net because he wasn't paying attention) but has been pretty much lights out his last 3 games. What are your thoughts on the Ladd hit? The majority of Hawks fans, myself included, think it was legal(for the record I think the hit that knocked Toews out was legal too) because Ladd hit with his shoulder in what appeared to be the collarbone and then into the head and didn't leave his feet until after the hit was thrown. A lot of other people seem to think it was dirty because he launched himself and they think he led with the elbow(which is what the refs called him for but I don't see it in the replays) I blame Bettman for screwing with the schedules so the Original 6 teams in the opposite conferences rarely play each other. With Detroit wanting to be in the east since they are in the Eastern time zone, it could leave the Hawks the only Original 6 team in the west and we'd very rarely see any of the other teams. Fear not, we hate Leaf fans too. They are a joke of a team right now, kind of like the Hawks until about 4 years ago. I seriously think they'd struggle in the AHL. I read someone joking that they might even lose their annual father-son game.

Hey Fred, the Canadiens are a great franchise and the fans got spoiled. How about a cup for the Blackhawks this year to end many decades of suffering for us die hard fans in the windy city? We would appreciate it a he11 of a lot more than Canadian fans would.

Re: Blackhawks 09-10 Season Thread
I have mixed feelings about what happened to Matt D'Agostini on Friday. What makes hockey such an exciting game is that it's filled with intensity. That includes the danger that it comes with. However, there are a few parts of the game that I find unnecessary. Among them is the way that players collide into the boards when they don't see it coming, especially when being hit from behind with a vicious cross-check. The consequences are far too severe. A player can instantly get a concussion or a major spinal chord injury. Also, I think that many players are far too careless with their sticks. I'd like to see even more serious action taken towards those whose high stcks lead to major damage. Apart from that, I am relatively fine with everything else that happens throughout the course of a game. Of course, many hockey fans will see things differently than I have. It is imposible to please everybody. That is what makes tinkering with the structure of the rules so controversal. Had Matt D'Agostini played for a team other than the Montreal Canadiens, I would have enjoyed the hit by Andrew Ladd. Regardless, where do you draw the line? There has been talk about eliminating shots to the head similar to the way the National Football League condems helmet-to-helmet contact. What's great about hockey is that it's such a fast-paced sport. Players use their instincts and make important decisions in a split-second in order to get an advantage. While player safety needs to be paramount, the nature of the game might get compromised if too much caution occurs
As far as symptoms that Jonathan Toews has, it's imperative not to rush him back into action. Asides from paralysis, a concussion is the most serious injury that could happen. Without proper treatment, a person's life can be tragically ruined as a result of permanent brain damage. In this case, Jonathan Toews' quality of life must take precedence over his professional hockey career. He'll come back eventually. Besides, the Blackhawks are loaded with plenty of firepower. In the short-term, the team can do just fine without him. The Blackhawks continue to be in good shape.
Most people that I know had congratulated me when they saw the Canadiens beat the Maple Leafs on Saturday. However, I continue to be far from satisfied. The Canadiens had a commanding 4-2 lead midway through the third period. They somehow let a porous Toronto team force the game into overtime and it required a shootout for the Canadiens to generate two points in the standings. The Canadiens have an opportunity to get their act together in tonight's game against Atlanta. Even without the services of Ilya Kovalchuk, the Thrashers managed to make short work of the Ottawa Senators on Saturday afternoon. Therefore, it'll require a major effort to win tonight. Since the Canadiens are more than capable of emerging victorious, I won't settle for enything less than their best effort and a beneficial result.
Finally, I'd like to discuss the issue of draughts. Personally, I think that it's halarious that the Toronto Maple Leafs have not won a Stanley Cup since 1967. The folks of Leaf Nation constantly whine about their cronic losing ways. While I realize that Maple Leaf fans are among the most loyal in professional sports, they also happen to be the most annoying. The longer their draught will last, the more I get to rub it in. With all the losing the Leafs have had to witness, many hockey fans don't realize that the Blackhawks have the longest draught of any N.H.L. team. With their poor showing over the last few decades, they have been arguably the most insignificant team in all of hockey. Thankfully, they have drafted considerably well over the years. Along with great scouting and a couple of high draft picks, the Blackhawks are now a force to be wreckoned with. Unlike a Maple Leaf team that has shown little improvement, the Blackhawks are bonafide Stanley Cup contenders. Knowing how good of a team the Pittsburgh Penguins are right now, it's hard to imagine that they were also a laughing stock not long ago either. As for the Canadiens, it's a major misconception that our fans have had it so good. The glory days of watching megastars like Beliveau, Lemaire, Robinson, and Lafleur are long gone. Even though the Canadiens have had some good goal scorers lately, they have never come close to being listed among the overall scoring leaders. While not winning a Stanley Cup since 1993 may not sound so bad in comparison to the Maple Leafs or Blackhawks, Canadiens fans are furious about this and expect a lot more from their hockey club. Such a draught will probably continue as the Canadiens are expected to be just a mediocre .500 hockey club for the 2009-10 season. The Canadiens might be heading in the right direction for now, but it'll probably take a while for them to become legitimate Stanley Cup contenders once again. Not only has 1993 been the last time that Montreal has won a Stanley Cup, that's also the year that the sacred trophy has last been hoisted north of the border. This is highly unacceptable. At least this can change soon. I really believe that either the Vancouver Canucks or the Calgary Flames can have a breakthrough season. They're Canada's only realistic chance. Of course, they'll have to get past the Chicago Blackhawks. That's a mighty tall order. Of all the draughts, the Blackhawks have the best chance of ending theirs. While it's definitely the case for Blackhawks fans to get excited over watching such a dynamic hockey club, it'll be a tremendous relief for them once the Stanley Cup has actually been delivered. A Stanley Cup between Pittsburgh and Chicago would seem like heaven for the rest of us to watch. However, there's still an entire season to be played. Even though I won't exactly be okay with whatever happens, at least I plan to enjoy the ride along the way.

Re: Blackhawks 09-10 Season Thread
I know all about concussions. I had 1 diagnosed(and probably a couple more that went untreated) when I played football in highschool. After about a week I felt a lot better and tried to get back to training for the season and developed post concussive syndrome with constant headaches and nausea which kept me out for the entire season as a precaution. At least with the NHL players are not cleared to return until they pass the baseline brain reading test again that they have to take before the season starts. As for the Blackhawks Stanley Cup drought we can thank the buzzsaw Canadien teams of the 60's and 70's for that: Montreal beat them in the finals in 64/65 Montreal beat them in the Eastern Finals in 67/68 Montreal beat them in the finals in 70/71 Montreal beat them in the finals in 72/73 Montreal beat them in the second round in 75/76 Up until the 1997/1998 team the Hawks were in the playoffs almost every year except for a few(including 28 straight years), and then we went to the crapper for a while. I blame Montreal for keeping us from having a few more cups
