I know all about concussions. I had 1 diagnosed(and probably a couple more that went untreated) when I played football in highschool. After about a week I felt a lot better and tried to get back to training for the season and developed post concussive syndrome with constant headaches and nausea which kept me out for the entire season as a precaution. At least with the NHL players are not cleared to return until they pass the baseline brain reading test again that they have to take before the season starts.

As for the Blackhawks Stanley Cup drought we can thank the buzzsaw Canadien teams of the 60's and 70's for that:

Montreal beat them in the finals in 64/65
Montreal beat them in the Eastern Finals in 67/68
Montreal beat them in the finals in 70/71
Montreal beat them in the finals in 72/73
Montreal beat them in the second round in 75/76

Up until the 1997/1998 team the Hawks were in the playoffs almost every year except for a few(including 28 straight years), and then we went to the crapper for a while. I blame Montreal for keeping us from having a few more cupsstick out tongue [*sti*]

yeah....I remember Ken Dryden all too well ......shut down the Hawks scoring big time

Big time thicknthin, although Ken dryden was before my time ( im an eddie belfour guy when he was on the hawks ) but saw films and he was awesome, i know kinda off topic, but my pops gave me all his old hockey cards, i have near a few thousand of them. 4 of them are the same of ken dryden rookie year which i thouhgt was pretty cool beer [*B*]

Right on man....collecting cards are cool and good investment. I have a few in big demand but not for sale....they go to my kids. You mentioned Belfour ....could you imagine him back in his prime and playing on this Hawks team? Dynasty!

    Re: Blackhawks 09-10 Season Thread

No Toews or Eager tonight, though they have started practicing again and should be back soon.

The Hawks are trying to have Hossa ready for November 25th.

Huet is in goal again, hopefully the long layoff won't hurt him.

With Toews, Eager, and eventually Hossa coming back the Hawks can be scary good. Eager may not be a scoring threat but he can be a banger who is a pain in the butt to other teams.

    Re: Blackhawks 09-10 Season Thread

I went to nhl.com again. There was a fan poll that asked whether or not the Blackhawks will win the Central Division. I voted "yes" along with around 5,000 hockey fans. What were the other 500 people thinking? Even though it's a long season, I believe that Chicago is a shoo-in for "at least" the Central division. In fact, they'll likely reach the Conference Finals for the second year in a row unless they self-destruct along the way. Realistically, I don't see that happening.

Another game to keep an eye on tonight is a matchup between two other Original Six hockey clubs as the Bruins host the Canadiens. The first round of last year's playoff series was a disgrace. No wonder Montreal GM Bob Gainey made so many offseason changes to the lineup.

The Bruins are hurting, big-time with star players Marc Savard & Milan Lucic out for roughly 4-to-6 weeks with various injuries. Also, the Bruins rank dead last on the power-play.

Sadly, games aren't won on paper. My gut feeling is that Boston will dominate. The Canadiens have lost five in a row on the road. Even though it would be wonderful to see Montreal pull this one off, our underachieving ways are expected to last beyond tonight.

Whenever a Montreal player would later turn into a Boston Bruin, it always seems to haunt us. Michael Ryder flourished in the playoffs. Now Boston LW Steve Begin is off to a fine start in Beantown as well.

That concludes tonight's post. I'd like to think that the Canadiens can pull it off even though the back of my mind says to put away all hope.

I'm off to watch it on the big screen. I've gotta go. It was nice chatting with you again.

A lot of people think that Detroit is just laying in the weeds waiting to pounce. The problem with that thinking is they are no longer the best team by far in the Central division and they can quickly fall way behind the Hawks , Columbus, and even Nashville. Right now(I know it's early) the gap between first and last in the division is only 6 points.

There is no doubt Detroit can be a powerhouse if their offense starts clicking but they have had goaltending problems and are getting older all around and don't seem to be the steam roller they have been, though that could change at any moment.

There are rumors floating around the Hawks and Leafs are in serious contract talks with the 2 players rumored to be the main pieces being Kaberle and Campbell. Dumping Campbell would be huge in our efforts to resign Toews, Kane, and Keith after the season(all RFA's and we're in cap trouble until we dump some serious salary). We brought in Campbell to fix the PP and he's done crap on it.

We've seen a few Hawks players get cut lose then go on to be good/serviceable while they were complete crap in Chicago. you can't worry about it. Some players get too comfortable until they realize they're expendable and a change of scenery gets the point across.

I'd like to see all the Original 6 teams make the playoffs in the same year. It always seem 1 or 2 of the teams is god awful every year. The last time it happened was 1995-96 season.
