xlledx:Hey guys, I read the first 2 pages of this thread until I got bored with that whole Brian Griese debate, and then this last page. Can someone really quick clarify how much cap room we have right now? Even a ball park estimate would be great, Im just curious.
LOL uh just read THE FIRST POST, at the bottom of it it gives all teh info after the individual breakdown.
How did you read the first posts and not get this?
xlledx:It said "Last Updated 08/06/09" so I figured it was out of date if it had Chris Williams or Rex Grossman starting clauses in it.
????
HUH? what are you talking about?

This is what he means DB. He obviously meant 2008 as opposed to 2009 though.
For what it's worth, here is the money Manning collected with the Bears:
2006
$1.585 million base salary$100,000 workout bonus$5 million roster bonus
2007
$1.065 million base salary$100,000 workout bonus$1 million roster bonus
2008
$100,000 workout bonus
Ok can someone hazard a guess what sort of cap room we have left, I think its about 1.4million but that is just a guess, as i cant work out the rules on releasing players?
HELP

LOL. I think he meant 08/06/2008 & I'll lay bets that he's not American. He's thinking the date is 8th of June when it's 6th of August. Gotta remember that almost the entire rest of the world print their dates dd/mm/yyyy & not mm/dd/yyyy. It's like every time some iamanidiot decides to have a go at me for spelling it defence & not defense because they don't realise there's a difference between American English and English!!! (Not calling you an iamanidiot of course!!!)

How do you come up with this number? Are you a good accountant?

alot of research and yes have an accounting backround
BTW for the cap people: here is his cap #( 9/3/2008)
buenning:
2008: $800,000, 2009: $545,000, 2010: Free Agent
So we eat the $295,000 of boman's signing bonus( dead space)
and 'save" 295,000 which was bowman's salary
So the "net" is a 800K to cap or now at roughly $2 mill under cap
Before it gets too far out of our minds, we'll take a look at the finances involved in the decisions to release defensive end Dan Bazuin and linebacker Mike Okwo in the final roster cutdown Saturday. Bazuin was a second-round pick in 2007, the 62nd overall selection, and Okwo was a third-round pick, the 94th overall selection.
Click inside here for a look at the numbers:
Dan Bazuin
Signing bonus: $764,0002007 salary: $285,0002010 salary guarantee: $421,000*Total: $1,470,000* The $421,000 guarantee was a one-time bonus that Bazuin must be paid.
Mike Okwo
Signing bonus: $617,5002007 salary: $285,000
Total: $902,500
So the Bears had $2,372,500 invested in two players who did not play a down for them as both were on injured reserve for all of 2007.
*** Dollars and Sense Part II: A league source calling to check on Ricky Manning Jr. informed us the one-year deal he received from the St. Louis Rams was for $1.25 million. The veteran cornerback was due to make $1.85 million from the Bears this season and was on the books for 2009 for a little less than $2 million.
UPDATED: With Miller at Halas Hall signing his contract, his agent Harold Lewis felt comfortable going on the record.
Miller signed a one-year contract for the minimum-salary benefit. That means he'll earn a little more than $781,000 this season to go along with a $40,000 signing bonus. He turned down more money from the Bucs and Ravens.
"It's an opportunity I am glad Fred did not pass up," Lewis said. "It was not about the money for him, ever. These are just days he will never forget. For players it's not so much the games as it is the time in between spent with teammates and coaches. They wanted him back and Fred wanted to return.
"They're hopeful their tackles hold up for the rest of the season and [Chris] Willams the draft pick steps in and is a solid player. Fred is an insurance policy and he's a good policy to have when you're a team spending $120 million trying to get to the Super Bowl. He's an insurance policy they will have for the rest of the year and I'm glad it worked out this way."
*** The Bears just announced rookie seventh-round pick Kirk Barton has been waived to make room for Miller.
