My friends and me are thinking of taking a trip to Chicago later this year, anyone know a really good place for steak around Soldier Field?

Ditka's restaurant has pretty good Steaks and so does Harry Carey's

GIbson's is kind of the 'in' place, and is good. Mortons is good. It's a chain, but it started here, so I can still consider it local. Chicago Chop House is good.  Kiefers, across the street from Harry Carry's is supposed to be good, but I've never been there.

Mortons for sure.. My dad makes all the stained glass windows for the chain so I'm a little biased :-)

i once knew of a chinese restaurant that was getting ready to let their head chef go, after he caught wind of it, he choked his chicken in the egg fu yung, needless to say i never stepped foot in that place again

You're coming to visit Chicago and you're going to eat steak??? You can do that anywhere. What about deep-dish pizza, or Greek Town or Billy Goat Tavern's "cheeseburga, cheeseburga, cheeseburga"...

Italian beef sandwiches...pizza...deep fried polish sausage , Chicago hotdog....etc...go to Metromix.com and type in the area you're staying and what you're looking for food wise.

I ate there in 07 after the Bears/Vikings game for a late victory dinner. I had an 18 oz Prime rib.--Best I ever had.

Chicago is known as one of the best towns for steak. The concept of steak may not be original to Chicago, but we do have a reputation for knowing how to cook them, and a history of having alot of slaughter houses which associated us with steak. And someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the tradition developed from how all the railroads used to run thru Chicago before going out East, with alot of slaughter houses in Chicago that would get livestock from the midwest, and then ship them out east. This meant Chicago was a very good place to get good steak and alot of steakhouses sprung up. I would definitely put a burger from the billy goat much farther down the list on authentic Chicago food. Nice character & story to the restaurant, and got turned into an SNL skit, but the food really isn't anything special. Here's a list of stuff I can think of that Chicago is either known for or created, in no particular order: Deep Dish Italian Beef Chicago Style Dog Polish Sausage Steak Frango Mints Jay's Potato Chips Saganaki (how we serve it is unique, or at least started here) giardiniera (traditional italian giardinera is different and not used as a condiment) - like sport peppers giardiniera can range from hard to impossible to find outside of Chicago from what i've heard & seen. sport peppers Invented here, but not really associated with the city: Oreos, The Twinkie, Brownies, McDonald's I've also heard people associate BBQ & ribs with Chicago alot, although I've never really considered those particularily Chicago. Maybe it's just one of those things that whenever I have it in Chicago I write it off more to so much being available in a big city instead of the city being particularily good at something. I've also heard that gyros were created here, but haven't had that verified from anything credible. And then there's the ethnic food that I'd consider us having a decent reputation for: Polish, Greek, Mexican, Indian, and in the past but not so much in modern Chicago, German food

Hey Navy.  You ever been to the Wilmot Stage Stop in Wilmot, WI?  Or The Colony House in Trevor, WI?  Both of those places are pretty damn awesome for steaks/lamb chops.  Johnny's Chophouse in Antioch isn't bad either.
