Re: Guide to Spotting Fake Chicago Bears Jerseys
jrcorleone:I have to agree with Socrates that I certainly wouldnt look down on anyone for buy a knock off or replica rather than an authentic. Bears fans are Bears fans, some just have more money to spend than others, some just value their money too much to spend $230 on a jersey. Al that to me is very understandable I dont judge anyone on that. As a man with a blue collar job and two young boys I couldnt buy a $230 jersey without questioning myself. I support the Bears anyway I can, so whether I buy a replica from nflshop that costs me $75 or 80 or not doesnt make me less of a fan.
However, I dont think calling people out for wearing knockoffs was the point of the OP. The point was about being an informed consumer and there is nothing wrong with that. I wouldnt want to order my %80 replica and end up with a $25 knockoff. It doesnt matter what your buying or how much your spending, getting ripped off sucks.
My post is neither pro nor anti knockoffs. My wish is only to educate people.

Re: Guide to Spotting Fake Chicago Bears Jerseys
scotty54:The guide should have pictures of current Bears jerseys for the official EQT and Authentics instead of the Payton and Singletary, since the current styles are different
Made the change. I wanted to honor the legends, but alas practicality wins out. Jay Cutler Avatar Dude- As for the color, the navy is so dark on a Bears jersey that it can look black in poor lighting. Underneath the flood lights of a modern football field its seldom noticeable tho. And yea, that Singletary jersey may be a shade darker than its supposed to be, but it looked so awesome I wanted to use it.

Re: Guide to Spotting Fake Chicago Bears Jerseys
GT Bear: Socrates: xlledx: urlacher1285:Please give me my 5 minutes back for reading this post
Youre a big boy, if you dont like something you dont have to read it.
Here's my problem with this entire post. I see a Jersey selling for $230. Reebok paid a woman or child in El Salvador or Korea 19 cents to make that jersey (link has been posted previously) So Reebok made a 1250.52% profit on it, and has told people to never buy knockoffs so it can continue to make that kind of profit. While when I walk into a store and see someone wearing a Bears jersey, all I care about is he's a fellow bears fans. I don't look down on him or her because he/she bought the jersey from a knock off shop. In fact, I am happy to find out he/she didn't fall for the 'only buy the name brand' crap. People are lemmings. They buy diamonds because they are told how precious and beautiful they are, but the fact is they are the least rare of all the precious gems, and the most flawed. You are told by the one company that owns ALL the diamond mines in the world except the one in Canada and one in Iceland to buy these and you, like lemmings spend more for something that's the least rare. The same effect applies with the 'authentic' Jersey. ALL the companies pay about the same 19 cents to have one made, but some have a much smaller profit margin, and people are on here trying to tell you why you must buy Reebok? Get real.
Wait...just because you don't care if you get a knockoff means other people shouldn't care? Get over yourself. I'm pretty sure this is directed at spotting people trying to rip others off on e-bay for the most part. If you spend the money you want what you paid for, not a crappy knockoff.
Anyone buying a jersey on ebay deserves to be ripped off. Why would ANYONE think they can get Reebok cheaper on EBay You need to get over YOURSELF. Anyone selling 'authentic' on Ebay for cheaper than a official NFL sanctioned store is selling the chinese version of the shirt. And no, no one should 'care' that they are buying a $230 jersey for $35 and it's a knock off any more than someone buying a 'Rolex' from someone walking down the street should cry that it wasn't really a Rolex.

Personally, people need to read ALL the posts on this board since just a few days ago there was a huge thread where people were insulting others for not buying 'authentic' . Maybe, if you had read that thread, then seen another thread start out almost exactly like it, you would understand why people don't believe the thread has any merit. It certainly doesn't have anything at all to do with the chicago bears other than the jersey's shown are Bears jersey's. All this thread needed was one simple line. If you don't see it's Reebok, it's not NFL sanctioned, and if you are buying it at Ebay or anywhere else for less than NFL.com sells it, then you are buying a knock off. Anyone that gets ripped on Ebay and complains about it deserved to get ripped off. I also have some precious lakefront property in the Seirra dessert I am more than willing to sell you cheap.

Re: Guide to Spotting Fake Chicago Bears Jerseys
I appreciate the poster's intentions of this thread. But the reality is, people like me will pay what I can afford. If it looks fake, but I like wearing it because it represents my team loyalty, then I'll wear it. I don't think I can spend over $200 for a jersey, and if I did, it will be for a hall of fame player and will go in a frame hung on the wall, I won't wear it. I'll probably only buy and wear replicas, that's good enough for me. If I see an even cheaper fake jersey, I may buy it on a whim, and wear it for mowing the lawn or washing the car, or even playing a pickup game where I won't be afraid it would get abused, but as long as it has my team's colors, it's good enough for me, whether or not it's officially licensed by the NFL, Reebok, Nike, or any of these multi-million dollar companies.

Re: Guide to Spotting Fake Chicago Bears Jerseys
this post is misleading because it doesn't take into account years of jerseys, for example 2002 wasn't an all mesh jersey and it did have cuffed sleeves.

Re: Guide to Spotting Fake Chicago Bears Jerseys
Nice informative post. Great for anyone purchasing a Bears jersey. But a "true" Walter Payton or 1985 Bears "Authentic" jersey is an all mesh without sewn-on numbers made by Wilson. Walter Payton never wore a Reebok Bears jersey.

Geez, whats up your butt?? This is a very informative post. It's up to the individual to make the choice of knowingly buy a knockoff or not. If anything, this post helps those who want to buy a real jersey but can't really spot fake ones that well.

I want to be clear on a few points. You could just have a Replica or a EQT. Replicas typically cost $80, and do not have sewed numbers and letters. They are the most comfortable and casual to wear tho, as they feel the most like a shirt. EQT typically cost $110, and do have sewed numbers and letters. They are not mesh throughout like the more expensive Authentics. Also, the back is longer than the front. I should have made that clearer in my guide, and I may go back to specific which details are specific to which types. In the end, the important thing is you didnt spend $200 on a Replica or a EQT thinking it was an Authentic.

Re: Guide to Spotting Fake Chicago Bears Jerseys
Im confused, for authentics, the stripes on the sleeves should be solid? The jersey's that I have are fully mesh, sown on letters and match everything else to be authentic, but the stripes arent solid, but the sleeves have the elastic on them.
I actually still have the tag on the forte jersey I got a while back (havent worn it yet) and the tag says authentic, reebok, blah blah

Re: Guide to Spotting Fake Chicago Bears Jerseys
One of my favorite jerseys is a Orange modern Payton jersey. I am sure its a knockoff but its good quality and unique. It does its purpose, it shows that I support the team and also gives credit to a quality player. I really don't give a crap if I identically match that player or if I put money into a giant corporations pockets. It looks cool and thats ok with me.

Re: Guide to Spotting Fake Chicago Bears Jerseys
Good article man. I bought my first "authentic" Urlacher Jersey off of Ebay that was poorly constructed (number stitching is falling off) for 80 bucks. A year later my stepdad bought me a TRUE Authentic Richard Dent jersey...man the difference is insane. Cheers for the post again.

Re: Guide to Spotting Fake Chicago Bears Jerseys
This post is a homerun.
Thanks for dropping knowledge, I have a few Bear Jerseys myself and intend to buy more. One thing this tells you is there are a lot of people making money off of NFL merchandise. Some of those bootlegs looked real good until the flaws were pointed out.
Good post. Should be stickied with a link to the Bears store.

I have over 30 jersies, and a few more hung on walls( signed by Hof's).. this is an AWESOME post,, thanks for it!..
education of what is out there and what to look for ALWAYS appreciated by me and most posters- you take from ti what you want, and the old rule always applies" you get what you paid for".. for "some" having the 'real deal" matters.. for other a slight wrng sleeve stripe no big deal, and 'worth" saving 75% to get a mistake jersey.. I like that no judgement was made, and just showed all the differences and WHY the difference in prices.
Kudos on a great post and info.

Thanks for the post. I welcome any post that questions something in my guide. As for the stripe being solid or not: all I have to go on is this photo from NFL.com here. Underneath the photo you will see a button that says "PRODUCT ZOOM;" click it and a giant photo will pop-up in another window that allows you to zoom in really far. In that photo you can clearly see the stripes are not mesh. However! The stripe also goes through the GSH logo, which is something its not supposed to do! (One more thing you can take away from that photo, is that it shows the proper spacing of the stripes. The top and middle stripe are closer together than the middle and bottom stripe.) Not a big deal, and thats a point I want to make. I wouldnt sweat the details too much. If you were happy with your jersey before, than you should be happy with it now. Things like the stripes being solid or mesh, or if the stripe goes through GSH could very well just be year specific. Or factory specific! I understand, that if youre spending $200 you want it to be as authentic as humanly possible, but if you just bought it for $100, than consider this: You saved $100 by having mesh stripes. Sounds like money saved to me.

Thanks everyone for the nice compliments. This is a work in progress, btw, so feel free to offer your insight into any details that may be misleading or even completely wrong. Right now I need confirmation on 3 things, preferably from people that have bought an Authentic jersey directly from NFL.com: 1) Can you see the back numbers through the front? 2) Are the stripes solid or mesh? 3) Does the middle stripe go through the GSH logo? None of these details are particularly important to me, but it would be nice to get some feedback.
