Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
BearFanDan1:In 2010 their is several good young lineman that could be pricey, but obviously needed if we want to see Cutler develope. Here's who I would target, these 3 are unrestricted Free Agents. Kansas City Chiefs Center : Rudy Niswanger: 6'5 320 Starting for his first time this year and is really playing as good as any center in the NFL. The Chiefs coaches/Media are saying he's their best/most consistent lineman. He's young, powerful, nasty, and makes all the line calls to a Tee. He hasn't given up a sack yet. I watched a Chiefs game a few weeks back and the TV announcers we're saying this guy is their best lineman and one of the best in the AFC and one of the only bright spots on the Chiefs offense this year. Tampa Bay Bucs: Right Tackle Jeremy Trueblood 6'6 325 pounds of nastiness. Kick Chris Williams and his finesse pass blocking ( Which has been solid in my opinion) to Left tackle where he belongs. Trueblood would be our enforcer and would be a perfect run blocking mauler the Turner Power O requires at the Right Tackle position. St. Louis Rams: Right Guard Richie Incognito 6'5 330. He's a heck of a run blocker and is improving his pass blocking technique which is already solid. He's on a horrible offense team and bad offensive line which makes all of them look bad. The guy would look great in in a Bears unigorm, knocking lineman around and this guy plays to the whistle, something no one this team does offensively except Josh Beekman. Garza would be a backup on any other team just like he was in Atlanta. Omiyale will be a solid backup LT and Kreutz will still be on the team, just on the bench. His enforcer/nasty style of playing is ancient history. He will provide great leadership and be a good experienced backup. James Martin could be the backup swing tackle and we have gotten better, while still keeping experienced backups. Our starting line will be C.Williams-J.Beekman-R.Niswanger-R.Incognito-J.Trueblood Our backups Omiyele Louis- Kreutz- Garza- Martin Turners offensive scheme needs the size.
Solid post, but here's what I think should happen.
Sign RT Winston Justice (6'6" 320, 25 years old) from the Eagles. Winston was a 2nd round pick in 2005, and has had plenty of opportunites to show his worth in the place of Shawn Andrews. Justice is a guy the Eagles would love to keep but after signing Andrews to a 7 year extension in 2006 it doesn't seem likely to pay Justice starter money to sit on the bench.
Sign LG Logan Mankins (6'4" 310, 27 years old) from the Patriots. Mankins has been an absolute stud since being drafted in 2004. The Paetriots have been famous for letting high priced free agents walk, and it seems they planned for this on in last years draft by selecting Rich Orhnberger out of Penn State. Remember they also have an additional first round pick that they aquired from Oakland and may want to put their money into other key free agents including Ben Watson, Vince Wilfork, Kevin Faulk, Derrick Burgess, or Leigh Bodden.
With those two additions our line could look somthing like this:
Williams, Mankins, Beekman, Shaffer, Justice
We could then use Garza as a swing Guard, and Lance Luis and Omiyale as backup Tackles.

I hate to bring it up again, but neither of these guys will be FAs if the CBA isn't reached. With a lack of young talent on the market and the lack of a salary cap, the price on the guys who are available (who will be in at least their seventh season next year) will be through the roof. I think we're better off finding guys from our current roster and the draft.

abney72:these would be great ideas... if you setting up a franchise on MADDEN 2010
AS opposed to leaving our offensive line the way it is???? You mean to tell me that the offensive line we have now would be better on Madden????? Hey genius what would you do with the O-Line problems????? Or let me guess........ you don't think there is a problem.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
If a CBA isn't reached they will be chomping at the bit to test out free agency. It will be a uncapped year and a lot of teams can spend as much as they want which means more money for more players.
It's common sense dude. BUSINESS 101 my friend.
I hate to keep piling it on you but if there's a uncapped year teams don't have a salary cap, which means they can spend as much money as they want to. The good players will get paid major money while the special teamers and backups will get low balled.
If there's a uncapped year these players will go into free agency no doubt and make some big time bucks. Get your facts straight.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
I can't see JA or Lovie waiving Omiyale or keeping him as a backup next season, I think he will be given every chance to win the guard position again and hopefully as a backup he is learning it much better and will be much better next season. I think Pace retires after this season whether it be due to injury or just bad play. Beek will take over at center with williams at LT, LG will be Omiyale most likely, RG will be our 3rd rd pick battling with Garza and RT I could see us picking up Trueblood or Penn whomever the Bucs do not try to retain. Both are solid in run and pass blocking and we will not have to break the bank for either. While it would be nice to pick up the center u mentioned from KC, I doubt if he is that good that KC who is rebuilding just lets him walk. Incognito plays with a lot of passion but is just average at best and dont think he is worth the money. Justice is another guy who is just average and was abused by Osi what 7 times? dont kno if all of those instances were without any help but thats just bad.
I think it all depends on Omiyale's growth this season as a guard, if he is anywhere near what beek is now, we'll be fine. If not then we'll have to rely on Louis to step in at guard.

Also, teams will be able to use three tags -- one franchise tag and two transitional tags. Currently, teams can only use one -- either a franchise or transitional. That means that the top three players on each team who would be available could also be protected. Very few quality players will be available in free agency next year.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
Jeremy Trueblood?? You remember this guy?? He pulled a UFC move on Alex Brown, elbowing him in the face a few times and OGUN gets the call for pushing him off!!!
I like that he's nasty, but if he's got a stupid attitude like that all the time then NO.

I hate Jeremy Trueblood. He is freakin nasty. But of course, if you put him in a Bears uniform he's my favorite RT ever. I like this post. Wish we had these guys this year.

I need to learn more, but Trueblood and Gaither are the only names mentioned that I like, and Gaither is an RFA. I'm pretty sure Justice is a bust. I remember a lot of posters (including myself) wanting him, but he didn't pan out.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
IMO trueblood is overrated on this board... but if you like a guy thats always talkin trash and getting called for penalties (still a possible upgrade from what we have now though I guess)...
Has anyone mentioned Chris Kuper from Denver? He's been starting on that line since he was a rookie (small school kid. university of north dakota) and has been tremendous in both pass protection and run blocking... also an excellent pulling guard. I would love to see the Bears pick him up this offseason!

i hate to say it but it seems we are in for a long rebuilding. Unless something unbelievable happens I do not see us being better on the O line. Young talented o linemen do not come available and if they do they are crazy expensive.

jsarff33:Here's a few more that would be worth looking at. Marcus McNeill, San Diego Chargers (25) Jared Gaither, Baltimore Ravens (23) Winston Justice, Philadelphia Eagles (24) Deuce Lutui, Arizona Cardinals (26)
Im not sure i will ever forget the game Justice had against Uminyora of the Giants. 6 sacks i believe...I'll pass.
said Israel Idonije. "But there are still some things we've got to tighten up coming into this weekend against Denver. We have to take another step. Even though the preseason games are very vanilla, and we're not really showing everything, it's very basic football. You still want to be able to do those basic things well."

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
We have shaeffer who is a good right tackle. Isn't Kruetz at the end of his contract? if he is we won't resign him cuz he will as for to much money. I don't know about Logan Mankins but if he is not a restricted free agent we shuld look at him also he culd be a very good pick up.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
BearFanDan1:
Our starting line will be
C.Williams-J.Beekman-R.Niswanger-R.Incognito-J.Trueblood
Our backups
Omiyele Louis- Kreutz- Garza- Martin
Turners offensive scheme needs the size.
Beekman and Williams on the left side is a small finesse left side. The only reason Beekman is playing at LG is because of Omiyale's spectacular flop. He does not have the size to shore up the run blocking that would be needed next to Williams. He does have traits that will probably make him a good center, and since it looks like he is being groomed for the postiion, so why take him out of it? Under no circumstance will Kreutz ride the pine in your scenario. He would retire, be cut or start. Niswanger will never get close to FA in a KC uniform, and we don't have a need at center with Beekman being groomed there. Incognito is hurt way too much, and both he and Trueblood are cheap shot artists. Being "mean" or "nasty" is all fun until we are getting hit with personal fouls in crucial drives because they can't control themselves. I don;t even think Trueblood is even anything but a marginal player that gets by on a bad team. If we go into 2010 next year with desires of getting a FA offensive lineman, I hope we set our sights a little higher than these two.
Moe Greene, Left Tackle Mafia "Chicago is a better town to play football in than Denver. That's no slap at the city of Denver, it's the truth." - Desmond Clark ``I’m going to rise to the occasion like always,’’ - Cedric Benson "A QB in the NFL Draft is a good QB or he would not be in the draft at all..." - Priceless CBMB quote

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
I think Max Jean-Giles is a free agent as well as Chris Kuper. Both are young, promising guards. I really like Jean-Giles as a RG for us. He is a mauler, and road grader type lineman just beginning to hit his stride. I think uper is more of a finesse type of lineman similar to Beekman. I also really like Incognito. That kid is a good run and pass blocker with an extremely nasty disposition.
I think this offseason Williams will be moved back to LT and Omiyale will be given the RT role. Pace and Olin may retire, a good possibility, IMO. If so Beekman slides inside to center, leaving us a need for two guards.
Give me Incognito at LG next to Williams, and Jean-Giles next to Omiyale and this line is set and young across the board. These young guys can grow together, and become a very solid group.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
jsarff33:Here's a few more that would be worth looking at.
Marcus McNeill, San Diego Chargers (25)
Jared Gaither, Baltimore Ravens (23)
Winston Justice, Philadelphia Eagles (24)
Deuce Lutui, Arizona Cardinals (26)
Of these Duece could be a really good get. Gaither is good as well, I don't see Baltimore letting him get away. Justice has been a disappointment. McNeil doesn't seem to be the player he was his first year.

Re: 2010 FA Offensive lineman targets
BearFanDan1:If a CBA isn't reached they will be chomping at the bit to test out free agency.
This is a really funny "correction". I just love the MOTO generalities while being completely oblivious to the main point of free agents being unable to leave their teams if an agreement is not made. "I hate to keep piling it on you...". Classic.
