But yeah, I think cautious optimism is a good idea.  But I just can't see telling anybody of Muslim faith that they cannot serve this country in the armed forces just because of their beliefs, there are so many that are proud to be here, and take pride in being here, and would take pride in serving this country, it just wouldn't be right, and would set this country back 100 years if not more as far as race goes imo.  Hopefully we(and I say we because its up to us the people) can figure this out, and make something worthwhile out of this without doing further damage.

And I think it has become due to our own ego, "we're the best it doesn't matter if I contribute or not." Is kind of the feeling I get from those my age.

In light of this, what's your view on Christianity, particularly in regards to the time it took to secularize and get away from violent evangelicalism?  You don't think an equivalent of the European enlightenment (the very reason Christianity is the neutered religion it is today) can ever happen in the Muslim world, particularly with such a progressive young population upcoming in Iran?

agreed on the 2 way street stuff, and on the hard work ethics, it was put in plain sight for me a while back when it was either my dad or grandpa said that my generation(I guess we have been labeled Generation x lol) is the beginning of the laziest people he had seen in his entire life. Which kinda pissed me off, and both of them made me who I am today.  He practically said everything you just did about it, and after being a temp employee working up through 3 depts and now being management for 5 years, it is so apparent the lack of "want to" in people anymore.  What happened to elbow grease and just digging in to get it done.

 

I just hope and pray that this country don't get torn apart over things like this, people made this country great, I think we can do it again if everybody leaned into it and all pushed the same direction.

As for the torn aspect with what has just happened. I think Obama has the right message on waiting to get all the facts before drawing conclusions. Christianity is an excuse to wage war, Islam is a cause. Christianity came to power through enforced government action on Rome's part. Islam did it through war. That's how i see it.
