Why are white males so uptight about being asked to just take a second to try and use non-offensive terminology when referring to people different to them?  Do they really feel so persecuted and opressed over this?

I don't think they should be.  A purposeful, basic attempt not to offend people should be a courtesy everyone should extend.

I've got no problem with that... but I would argue that white males are held to a higher standard of expectations for political correctness.

Which might explain why some feel overly persecuted over PC'ness.

In our society, white males have always been at the top of the cultural food chain, which is probably why the have the highest expecations to be better in that regard, and minorities who have had a history of being disadvantaged are cut more breaks.

I see the logic in that and don't really have a problem with it. 

When white males are a minority, then it follows that you think they should be afforded hiring quotas or other mechanisms for their advantage then right?

I was talking about not complaining about political correctness.  Sucking it up for a while without taking the faux persecution stance.

But how do you reconcile the contradictory statements? You're saying two opposite things.

It's not really a contradictory statement, Kansas.  When I mentioned the disadvantaged getting some breaks, I wasn't ever talking about practical unfairness like employment quotas, I was simply talking about the historically advantaged people (you and I) taking the "PC" stuff on the chin for a bit, while this transition into real equality takes place, and not puffing our chests out like spoilt children when something like black history month or NFL Hispanic Recognition month happens and saying "Well how come we dont have a white history month?".

These things aren't taking food off our table, they're gestures to encourage inclusiveness.  Let's be grown ups and understand it for what it is, rather than stomping our feet in the ground and taking on the "I'm the persecuted white male, what about me?" attitude.

What IS contradictory, is the two statements you made about mechanisms for the historically disadvanteged. But since we are talking about PC, we'll keep it about that.

My question then is, when is this 'real equality transition' going to take place? Where is all this white rage backlash you speak of? The foot stomping?

Maybe what you percieve as backlash against PC is just people wanting to see each other as human beings, and doing that on their own, instead of accepting the moralistic preaching of some academian who favors protecting xxxxx-Americans, this race, that religion, whatever minority group.

PC is doing more AGAINST advancing human relations than it ever did for it.

Moreover, I would challenge people to take THAT on the chin...

Point I'm trying to make, is that people are tired of getting PC rammed down their throat every time they turn around. You call it getting panties in a wad. People are just sick of it that's all.

This statement sums up most people's feelings about PC, IMO...
