    First post

Jay Cutler is already better than John Elway OR Brett Farve.  He's that good. To tell you the honest truth, he's the best QB I've ever seen play the game in the 40 years I've been watching it.  And as a John Elway fan since he played HS, that's hard for me to say.....but it's the truth.  He's better.

He's the Michael Jordan of the NFL.

Jay Cutler will win more Superbowls than any QB in NFL history by the time his career is over.

That is putting alot of pressure on Jay Cutler.   I'm excited about him being on the Bears but saying he's better than Elway and Favre is a little extreme.

Saying Cutler is the Michael Jordan of the NFL that is really silly to even post that

Saying Cutler will win more Superbowls than any other QB in NFL history well I hope that does come true but I just want to win 1 than we can go for the 2nd and so on and by the way Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw are tied with 4 superbowl wins.  Saying Cutler will win at least 5 is putting it outthere big time like I said  as a Bears Fan I hope he does win 5 but I'm taking it 1 at a time

He must have an achilles heal or Denver wouldn't have been shopping him. I am so curious as to what it is. Also with a quarterback so great you would expect an uproar from the Denver fans but we heard not a peep. Very odd for such a supposed talent wouldn't you say?

Oh, Jay has (had) an Achilles Heel alright.  It's name was Josh McDaniels.  I do not see getting off a train about to wreck an Achilles Heel though.....I call it intelligent management of one's career.  Also, if you read the Denver papers, you will see that Bowlen has already admitted to mental issues aka senility.

Leadership, or lack thereof, comes from the top.  History is full of "greats" that went cuckoo at the end.  Sad, but true.

The achilles heel would be inefficiency in the redzone and interceptions.  I'm as stoked as anyone and full of high hopes for Cutler, but these are areas where he must improve.

Isn't it always easy for a quarterback, whose team is losing by 20 points, to move the ball at will down the field until they get to the red zone. I'm afraid Cutler may prove to be very much human.

Wow, great first post.  I'm getting all jittery and excited, but still have months to go before we can see him play.  Thanks SBJay.

You know, it's amazing to come here onto CBMB and find a topic which the majority of posts are actually positive!  But, of course, atleast one disgruntled fan always has to say something to try and kill the buzz.

Everything I've seen thus far of MidWay Jay looks awesome - strength, talent, age.... and even the maturity with everything happened in/around the trade.  I just hope the maturity holds strong when the -disgruntled fans/media- hack away at him when a possible little screw up happens <<knock on wood>>.

SBJay, looks like you know a ton about Elway/Jay.  Start studying up on Bears History (which I'm sure you already have).  Welcome to Chi-town baby!

I would counter and ask that you check out Denver's running game at those games, and who was running the ball for them.  The inability to run inside the Red Zone negates half of an offense's potential options down there.

As far as proving to be human?

I do believe that being diagnosed with diabetes-A pretty much answers that question for you.

        Don't you think?

The thing about winning the most SuperBowls ever... yeah, that's the part I care about! What makes me feel good about Jay and everything surrounding him and our Organization is that he's a Midwestern boy, like the majority of us; he was a childhood Bears fan, like us, and he's young.

Its like Denver was just practice for him to get ready for his REAL career as the best Chicago Bears QB ever, hopefully, in 10 or so years, we'll be thanking him for the memories and remembering a Golden Era of Chicago Bears history with a plethora of young stars on Offense and Defense.

Cutler, Hester, Olsen, Forte & Kreutz - Urlacher, Briggs, Tillman, Brown & Harris and the list goes on... is it September yet!?!?!

Sorry Spring... I couldn't help but notice the "like us's" ended on Jay's being young... not like us...lol

Optimisism is good... Crushing opponents... much better...

    Nev

Yeah, I kinda think that being a fan of the greatest franchise in the world keeps us all young, no matter what your "age" is. I'm 28, but when I'm watching or talking Bears, I'm forever young. Bear Down!

I can see the future: "Cutler drops back, steps up in the pocket... going DEEP to Hester! And its caught at the 20, 15, 10, 5, touchdown! Touchdown Bears! Cutler to Hester is becoming the premier long ball connection in the NFL... wow, these guys are special!"

Great post. I remember clearly that Cutler did 23 reps of 225 on the bench at the combine. Not 30. Still...it was a record for QB's so it doesn't make it any less impressive. He was listed as having a max bench of 425 at Vandy. That's just ludicrous strength.

    http://www.footballsfuture.com/2006/combinerecap.html

His physical skills are off the charts. He's as physically gifted as any QB in the last 20-30 years.

    Wow, this thread got stickied?

"There are only about a dozen NFL quarterbacks with the arm, charisma and willpower to carry a team to the Super Bowl. Cutler is on that list; Kyle Orton is not. Yet the Broncos gave Cutler away to the Bears because he didn’t make a positive first impression on new head coach Josh McDaniels. Franchise quarterbacks are harder to find than Super Bowl coaches. In fact, franchise quarterbacks often make Super Bowl coaches." -Rick Gosselin

       GO BEARS!!!!

SBJay I have one question: Are you a former Broncos fan who jumped ship because Cutler was traded?  The way you talk you once were a Broncos fan.

         GeorgiaJeff;

         Oh boy....

You want to see the can of worms, eh?

So be it.  I should probably make this a seperate thread, but here goes.

Yes, I used to be a Bronco fan.

For 40 years.  I grew up in Denver.  I knew players personally as friends of our family from the Orange Crush years.  I ran a small business for four years that took fans from neighboring states to see John Elway play in Denver in the 1990's.  I most definitely was a Bronco fan.  About as orange and blue as it gets.

But I was also an athlete and appreciated other athletes as well.  So the addiction of sports for me was two-fold.  I loved the players and the fans with equal fervor.  I guess I am a fan of sports more than I am a fan of franchises.

          I hope that makes sense.

The Elway/Shanahan years were some of the sweetest sports memories I'll ever have.  I got to witness NFL history up-close and personal.  That's priceless.

Then Bowlen fired Shanahan, out of the blue, hired an out-an-out child, out of the blue, and traded what will most likely be the best QB to play the game, out of the blue.  And all in only 90 days.....

         Incredible.

THEN.....I watched the residents of Colorado and the so-called 'fans' of this team try their damnedest to sabotage, destroy, libel, and slander Jay Cutler.  The only writer in Denver on Jay's side during the whole sordid and embarrassing debacle was Woody Paige.  Truth.  They (Denver 'fans') called him everything from "baby" to "lazy" to "alkie" to "teammates hate him".  It was disgusting to observe.

The official team website, denverbroncos.com, supported and rewarded these comments and promptly banned all users who criticized the new regime.  They supported the attempted character assasination of Jay Cutler.....but only in fact and in deed.

The hypocrisy, rudeness, ignorance, and callousness of these drunks was jaw-dropping.  And I had shared a stadium with them for decades...

I was in shock....but it got worse real fast.

Within days and weeks, fans and family turned on ME for questioning or criticizing these insane moves and behavior.  I was literally thrown off their sites, banned from publications, told I was "never a real fan" by children who couldn't spell "Gradishar" much less recall him, personally threatened with physical violence, disowned (yes, you read that correctly).....etc., etc., etc.  Truth was, Bronco fans began hating me more than any other fans in the league after McDummy was hired and Cutler was thrown out of town.

Raider fans became compassionate compared to these dysfunctional misfits.

Then I woke up one morning, saw my Denver Bronco jersey, and tasted bile in the back of my throat.

         I was done.

The jersey, and everything else that I owned that shared that logo was thrown out onto an Interstate.

         THAT was my experience...

So I had to take a real hard look at the team I'd been bleeding orange and blue for.....for four decades, and my relationship to it.  My 40-year relationship to it.  Could I be forced by location, logo, and memories into becoming a Raider fan?  Some pathetic caricature of a football fan chained to a senile ego?

         No.

Could I turn a blind eye, drink the kool-aid, and just rah-rah myself into a stupor with the camaraderie of ignorance and kool-aid drunks?

        No.

Unfortunately for me, Pat Bowlen and Josh McDaniels have taught me that football is indeed a business at the core.  I find it highly ironic and amusing that they like to exempt fan's opinions and loyalties from this cliche while they shove a ridiculous product down your throat, lie to your face, and basically insult your loyalty, your intelligence, and your memories.

Pat Bowlen pretty much destroyed all of mine.

On the other hand, you walk in the house and find the wife sleeping with the paperboy, and I'd say you'd be a complete fool for forgiving her and not filing for immediate divorce.

Time to get a new wife.

I learned that, ...for me, ...values, ethics, and integrity are more important than locations, logo's, or even memories.

Besides, after witnessing what the residents of Colorado did to Jay Cutler, I don't want to share a porta-potty with scum like that, much less a stadium or an NFL team.  Period.

I love football.  With a passion.  I coached once.

But I simply cannot associate myself with any organization (or their fans and supporters) that lies so blatantly, foolishly, and arrogantly.

...............But I gotta tell you, .....I am REALLY enjoying being/becoming/whateveryouwanttocallit a Chicago Bear fan!!!

Denver had this once.  But Colorado is no longer the same place I grew up in.  The times they did a'change, and I am ashamed to say I grew up there now.

They treat people like crap there.  I have no idea why.  It's been that way for a very long time.

But what's going on in Chicago right now?  Heh.....      I want to be part of that.

         I am part of that.

         -----------------

         GO BEARS!!!!!

    Yes, thank you.  Welcome aboard.

Allow me to make one correction to something you mentioned in this thread.  You said you felt Cutler could win five Super Bowls and thus be the first qb to do that.  That is true, but if you know your NFL history (and I'm confident you do) then you know that if that feat is accomplished Cutler would indeed be the only qb in NFL history to win five Super Bowls, but not the first qb with five rings.  Bart Starr has five rings ('61, '62, '65, and the first two Super Bowls).

I highly recommend that you read the book Papa Bear by Jeff Davis.  The book is about George Halas, but gives the history of the Bears in telling his story.  In my opinion it's the quintessential book for a Bears fan.  It should be easily obtainable from Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com, or wherever your preferred place is where you buy books.  Another book I recommend is Mudbaths & Bloodbaths.  That book is about the Bears-Packers rivalry.

Naw SBJay, I'm just messing with you, don't take this like an attack.

If your family and friends treated you poorly for having a different opinion, that's definitely a shame and not fair.

It just seems so weird to me that this "circle" of people you are in were so harsh. Bronco fans for the most part have been known to be some of the most diehard fans in the league, but at the same time nice and considerate to others. I have talked to quite a few people who are fans of other teams who have gone to a game at Mile High, and most of the time they mention the relatively friendly atmosphere.

Listen, I just think you're underestimating the love for the team that so many people in Denver have. Yes, 99% of Bronco fans would have told you last year, including myself, that they loved Jay Cutler, that he was the future of this franchise, and that he was about to become one of the top QBs in the league.

But listen, no matter how great of potential a player might have, nobody messes around with the Denver Broncos, and the fans know that. Quite frankly, Jay Cutler didn't handle this sittuation very well, and I've always blamed Bus Cook for a large part of that. The fact is, every team in the NFL has every right to trade any player they want to. If the players in this league don't understand and accept that, then they're in the wrong business. Cutler overstepped his boundaries in every way, including showing discontent after Bates was fired, and refusing to answer phone calls from his owner. But I don't really want to get into this argument again, it's all old hat.

I guess the point is, what were you expecting? A massive revolt from Broncos fans or something? The fact is, our fans just love to show up on Sundays and cheer on the orange and blue, one primadonna player isn't going to ruin that for them. You on the other hand, seemed to have gone through a long process of evaluating the state of the Broncos, its QB, and everything else before deciding to stay a Bronco fan or follow Cutler. Everybody's different, and everybody is a different fan, but my gosh man, it's just a player, it's not that big of a deal.

The NFL is a business and I took mine elsewhere.  I DO NOT associate with thugs, jerks, or mean people in general, not to mention out-and-out liars.  I've already survived games in Oakland-Alameda and the Colleseum in LA.  At one point in history Raider fans were somewhat classy too.  That changed.

Your nostalgia is touching, but hardly credible.  Denver fans have been sliding down the same slope Raider fans play on...for years.  You DO recall the snowball on the field behavior?  Trying to sabotage kickers?  Did you chuckle?  It's now become something of a dark tradition at INVESCO if there is snow in the bleachers.  The announcer has to warn you jerks not to throw snowballs at players.

That's not classy.  That's pathetic and sad.

It is what it is, and you are what you're doing today and not yesterday.  The people of Colorado threw Shanahan and Cutler under a bus.  You tried to do it to John Elway.  Perhaps Bus Cooke engineered that also?

I don't want to share anything with people like that.

Shannahan is not far under Elway as far as the appreciation for him in this state.

I don't know when it will happen, but it probably will someday, Shannahan will get a huge standing ovation from a Mile High crowd that will be thunderous, I guarantee that.

Mere days before Cutler was traded, Pat Bowlen came out and said that he called Jay several times in order to contact him and Cutler never answered or returned those calls.

Guess what? Jay came right out after that and said that Bowlen never tried to contact him. That was a flat out lie, because Bowlen has the phone records to prove it.

So much for your "values" huh?

Sorry, but I feel the more we talk the more you throw random things in just out of spite. That was a perfect example.

    I will never support liars.

You're beating a dead horse.  A dead, ...rotting, ...worm-food, ...orange and blue horse.  Enjoy your McRide.    wink [*win*]

I hear Brandon Marshall is holding out too.  Oppppth.  Guess all that McJoshie man-love is really going over well in Dove Ballet.  Brandon must certainly be super-excited about catching passes from McOrton in a contract year, eh?   (ROFL!!)

Then Tom Brady told ESPN today that McCoach told him before he left the Boston Belicheats that he was "only coaching for the money".   Uh-oh.....double oppppppth with cherries on top now.  Good job, Pat.....good job.

Awwww......it appears that things are not going so well in ColoROFLdo.

        Who knew?

Ah well, there is always Cherry Creek High to recruit from.  (BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!)

I have seen him throw a 35-yard frozen rope when his body was completely horizontal, off the ground, and draped with a 325 lbs. lineman.
You have obviously never seen Ditka throw the ball, my friend. Stuck in a 60 foot pit with twelve vipers, Ditka once hit Johnny Morris for a 115 yard TD -- on a frozen rope! And then he kicked the extra point with his left foot. This Cutler kid is nothin'.

Unfair comparison, Cutler is human. Ditka is made of  mustache and polish SASSAGE.

    Futility is over:
I dont know why facts are always blurred.  I always thought Cutler put up 26 reps... but I guess it was really 23.  Still pretty good for a QB

Benching 405 as a rookie.  Impressive for a QB.  Wonder what he can put up now.
