IHTB has agreed to bet $20 with me who will have the better regular season record, Pack or Bears.
Nothing like a free lunch.
Congrats IHTB. Since you'll have an extra $20, how about lunch on you after the season?
As much as I hate to say it, IHTB might just have $20 to spend on lunch.
I'll go first
Green Bay 10-6 Chicago 8-8 Detroit 8-8 Minnesota 7-9
Wow. We're actually not too far in disagreement. I was going to wait until Wisc posted his. But what the hell. Here's my guess.
Green Bay 10-6 Detroit 8-8 Chicago 6-10 Minnesota 5-11
Here's my guess. Green Bay 10-6 Minnesota 8-8 Detroit 8-8 Chicago 5-11
Spoken like a true Homer. GB has no QB's. The defense is questionable. Chicago has not one but TWO winning QB's, and don't think for a minute that you saw the real Bear's defense in preseason. Hester will be back doing returns, so the O will usually have a short field. Grossman may be benched, but Orton surprised me. He was hitting recievers and looking sharp.
I don't see Detroit going 8-8 either. Minnesota could be tough, Chicago has a chance, but GB and Detroit are going to be fighting each other as bottom feeders.
Either way Geno, you better set up a GB shrine and pray to whatever you believe in that GB doesn't come in last, because after your obsession with the Bear's fluke season last year, we will NEVER let you hear the end of it. The team (so far) is healthy, so don't count on the Bears coming in last again.
Lots of useless ramblings (again) but no prediction. I already know how confident you are in the bears. You ran away from even a signature bet as fast as you could (understandably). The season is now upon us so we will soon see who is right. AGAIN, I am saying that Green Bay will have a better season than Chicago. Where are your predictions Bassman? Please post them so I can go back and post them again later. How about that signature bet-PLEASE? You seem quite confident your bears will do well. How about it?
Like I said before (and you refused to listen) is that I NEVER bet on ANYTHING, especially with a cyber child who claims everything he doesn't agree with is a LIE.
And while trying to "predict" what will happen in any sport is like nailing Jello to a tree, I DID say what I thought MIGHT happen, if you choose to read the whole post. You have no proven QB's Geno. I know that's tough for a Packer fan to admit, but Drama Boy is GONE. Your team DIDN'T WANT HIM BACK. If Rodgers should be injured, which is NOT outside the realm of possibility, then who have you got?
Your defense is iffy at best. The Bears D obviously laid back in preseason, and Hester was not used as a return man to see who else we've got.
THAT'S WHAT PRESEASON IS FOR.
The real season will be very different. Don't think for a minute that the Packers are in anything but "rebuilding" mode. This should make you happy since it should have started three years ago, but Favre wouldn't give up and let it happen.
Favre is gone, the Packers are now just another small town team that most of the country could care less about.
A small town team that won the division and went to the NFC Championship game last season while the big city team landed in the cellar.
Don't depend on injuries this year. In fact, GB might be the team the injury bug lands on.
Cyber child? You're the one infatuated with Barney and Neverland.
Nice try, but you act like a child. I call em like I see em.
My teams defense is "iffy" while yours did badly only because "they laid back" in preseason. Sounds like someone talking out of both ends here Bassman.
Not at all. I'm talking aboout what the HEALTHY defenses do in the REGULAR season. GB's is not that good. The bears are VERY good when all the starters are healthy. Again, don't depend on injuries to save you again this year.
We shall soon see who the better team is. I only wonder what your excuse will be. Bad referees, conspiracy, cheating, bad luck, Orton had a hangnail-who knows what you'll come up with.
No excuses, just facts. The bears D was hit hard by the injury bug last year. It happens, but again, don't depend on it to make your team look better. It MIGHT be your turn, especially with Rodgers starting.
A signature bet would have cost you NOTHING. However, you know what's soon to come so you'll use name calling and everything else to avoid the embarrasment you would have had with the signature bet. I'm not "scared" why are you?
Scared doesn't enter into it, I just think it's a foolish waste of time. And YOU started namecalkine in your previous post. I didn't miss the tiny "B" on Bassman.
Drama Boy > Bench Boy
Benched > Run off the team.
NFC Championship Game > Cellar
Going to a Super Bowl > Blowing the NFCCG with a stupid (but typical) pick
Let's see. Packers had the 11th ranked defense while the bears had the 28th ranked defense. Sure Bassman, I believe you. Packers defense is not very good while the bears is outstanding.
The HEALTHY Bear defense IS "outstanding". And the Packers IS "iffy". You consistantly forget that they were injured last season. I keep reminding you NOT to depend on that this year.
Yeah right. I already got a glimpse of the "healthy" bears defense during the preseason. Watch out NFL.
Again, PLEASE depend on the PRESEASON being the real deal.
Does it bother you that I play you like a $2 banjo? Haven't you noticed how you get manipulated into stupid statements that will hurt you down the road? (many hurt you right now)
Just wondering if you caught on to that yet.
That's a funny one Bassman. The king of stupid statements saying he plays me like a banjo. ![big Smile [*big*]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif) Infamous Stupid Bassman Quotes: Brett Favre was an average QB at best
One Super Bowl win in 17 years? Not great I think.
We (Bears) have two VERY GOOD QB's
Both have winning records, especially against Bret favre and the Packers. I'm just saying...
Brett Favre had little to do with winning the Super Bowl
Defense and special team m'boy. Regghie White and Desmond Howard. Who got MVP that day anyway?
Deion Sanders was not a good cornerback
He wasn't NEARLY as good as the media (and he himself) thought he was. He interfered alot and wouldn't tackle. Not my idea of a good defensive player.
Bears will win 10-11 games this year
Remains to be seen.
And the most infamous quote of all:
THE NFL CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES WERE EXHIBITION GAMES!!
I never said that, I said they were CONSIDERED exhibition games AT THE TIME.
Better stick to playing your $2 Banjo Bassman. Your lack of NFL knowledge is obvious.
However, I NEVER said that the "Ice Bowl" was "Super Bowl I", AND I remember several losing seasons for the Packers. You keep forgetting those. It's like it went from 1996 -2007 overnight for you.
For the TENTH time now Bassman-I admitted my mistake. How many times must you be told? Seriously-you're worse than a five year old child sometimes.

How many times have I told you not to depend on the Bears being injured this season? You seem to think last year was NORMAL. It wasn't.
Seriously, I think you ARE a five year old sometimes.
How old REALLY? Were you alive and aware when Super Bowl I occured? Or are you just going by the perception from today's point of view?
Hey Geno, Read "Instant Replay" by Jerry Kramer. You know who he is don't you?
Page 227. Concerning Super Bowl I... "This isn't the most important game you've ever played, next year MAY be, but this year isn't..." - Vince Lombardi.
That's just one example.

IHTB:
Here are the 2 bets, for $20 each:
1. I bet you the Patriots will go deeper into the playoffs than the Packers. Knocked out at the same level is a draw. If one team makes it and the other doesn't, whoever has the team that makes it wins the $20.
2. I bet you $20 that the Bears' total point differential in head-to-head (total points scored less total points allowed for the 2 regular season games) against the Packers will be higher than the Packers?
Formally agree by responding here.
IHTB" What is the deal with these bets? Are you still in, or are you trying to get out of #1 b/c Favre is gone...(Favre being there or not was NOT mentioned in any part of the bet)?

IHATETHEBEARS:What day are you quoting here? I don't remember this. Did we bet on this? How can you accuse me of "trying to get out of it?" Where did I say I wanted to get out of it? Where did I say anything?
LOL. How many times do you "forget." The first time you forgot you said to put it on this thread so it wouldn't be deleted. I did that. Then I saw on this thread that you only would have made the bet if Favre were on the team. It is somewhere on this gigantic thread. Putting the bet on this thread was your idea...dig back 20 pages or so and you'll see it.

I'm not so sure about the first bet. But #2 is certainly winnable. I'll go with that one for sure.
You're saying we made that first bet? Are you sure the thread is gone? They go about two months back, don't they?
I'm surprised you don't remember. I have no proof, the thread I'm sure is gone...I'll look, but that would have been just after the Super Bowl, when Wardi was here. In fact, it may have been on one of the threads that got deleted when Wardi had anger issues. We made the bet...if you want to back out, I really don't care...it's not that big of a deal. Just clarify it now so we are on the same page.
June 7th.
I sort of remember this conversation now. I always do my wagering in this thread. Whenever someone suggests a bet, I always tell them to put it in this thread because I know this thread isn't going to disappear. And we can always come back in here to find the parameters.
You're saying we talked about a bet. I didn't remember it in June. And I don't remember it now. But like I said, I would have told you to put it in this thread. I guess you never did. And as you point out, if the other thread was ever there, it's gone now.
Want to go for #2?

Bassman45:This is why I never bet on anything.
Exactly.
I made a bet on a thread that has long since been deleted, and somehow IHTB has memory loss. I don't think I ever made a bet I can't recall.
Oh, and BTW, IHTB, you never told me to put the bet here when we first made it. It was after I reminded you of the bet and you claimed to have a memory loss that you said to put it here. Then, you claimed that you didn't recall making the bet, but you'd take my word and to put it here. Now, you have yet another memory loss and don't even recall even that. Of course, if the Packers would have somwhow made it further than the Patriots in the playoffs, you memory very well may have been jogged. I do find it very hard to believe that you could make a bet that crazy, not remember it, not remember telling me a second time you'd do it and to put it here, and not remember replying to the post on this thread. I find it VERY hard to believe.
Whatever, just skip the whole thing with both bets. I don't want to play games. If you don't want to make a bet...don't bet. If you do make a bet, remember the bet. Honestly, I don't believe that you could not only forget the bet, but also not even recall when reminded. I have a bet with DaBears where I bet that Williams will not play for the Bears this season. I have no idea what thread I made the bet on, but I know Dabears will remember, and if not, he would after I remind him. Everytime I mention the Patriots bet to you, you act as if you've never heard anything about it.
Again, just forget the whole thing. You are losing some credibility with me with your selective memory, however.

Dinky, I have bets in here right now that I can't recall. That's why they're in here. I highly, highly doubt I would have made that first bet without knowing Favre's status. I'm not an iamanidiot. And Favre's presence changes the whole nature of the bet.
Have you seen how many posts I have on this board? How could you possibly expect me to remember them all? Hell, Wisc constantly misquotes me. Dbears can't keep his Packer posters straight. He mixes us up all the time.
I ALWAYS tell people to place their bets in this thread. So you telling me that I didn't do it makes the whole thing highly suspect.

I ALWAYS tell people to place their bets in this thread. So you telling me that I didn't do it makes the whole thing highly suspect.
OK...so now I'm a liar. I made up a bet hoping to trick you into accepting it, right? I set this up on June 7, planning to come here for the kill on September 3, right? It's all my complicated plan to try and trick you into maybe giving me $20, if you were to lose the bet. I know you have a defective memory, and I was hoping to take advantage of that with this evil little plan I have in a desparate attempt to become possibly $20 richer. And you ALWAYS tell people to put their bets here...you remember that you ALWAYS do that, yet, by your own admission, you can't even keep track of the bets you have on this thread.
Whether Favre's presence changes the nature of the bet has nothing to do with whether you made it. The fact is you made the bet. Maybe you didn't think Favre was going to retire. How would I know what you were thinking. If you can't even keep track of your bets and I can keep track of mine, I'll go with my memory over your purported routine. Admittedly, you made a stupid bet regardless of whether Favre would be there or not. But just because you doubt you were that dumb does not mean you weren't. Heck, if you can't even remember who you bet with and what the bets are, why is it beyond possibility that you could not make a bet that you now consider to be dumb?
I even quoted a bet I made on this very thread, and you acted as if you never heard of it and had no idea that it had ever been discussed. Then you speculate about something you can't even recall that you highly doubt you would have done this or that. Now you have the nerve to insinuate that I made the bet up? You are ridiculous.
And I love how you compare remembering a bet to me asking you to recall every post you vere made. I don't recall every word I ever said, but I do recall my bets. Everybody I have known recalls their bets...everybody that is except you, who can't even remember a bet after being reminded.
Here are the choices:
1. Be a man and admit that you remember the bet and now want to back out;
2. If you don't remember making a bet because bets are just things that do not stick out in your memory, then acknowledge that I do remember making the bet and the terms and that you now feel the bet is void under the "IHTB can't recall exception to betting rule"; or
3 Flat out call me a liar, flat out say I made the whole bet up in an attempt to trick a poor Packer fan with a defective memory.
Of course option #3 involves pure speculation and an unwarranted character assasination by a person incapable of remembering bets he makes or unwilling to acknowledge bets he has made which he deems dumb, but as I know you won't go with option #1 or #2, why not just go ahead with #3? It's the next logical step in your string of ignorant posts.

And why did you decide to bring this up after all this time? Do you want to argue? Back in June you suggested simply dropping it altogether - peacefully and without incident. Now three months later you want to fight about it.
Dinky, if you don't like my explanation, fine. Leave it alone then. You don't have to attach a bunch of evil intentions to it.

Dink- Actually we DO know what IHTB was thinking, he even did a thread asking for Congratulatons that he was RIGHT THAT FAVRE WILL PLAY FOR THE PAKCERS IN 2008 AS HE PREDICTED..and he called it..
Of course when that blew up in his face, he quickly ran from that "beauty of a thread".. : ) so of course now "he doesn't remember".. when he is wrong, he "*never* remembers anything, when he is right he Always remembers it.. funny how that works with him : )
Its a tired act and most are sick of it.

I don't believe I made any thread asking for congratulations DB. But I believe I made a post about it somewhere. Care to dig it up and throw it in my face? I don't think you can find a thread though.
I'm not running from anything - nor have I ever. When I make mistake, I stick around and take my lumps.

thread , post.. can't say at this point really care which it was..
jsut KNOW you did say favre was comign abck and asked the board to congratulate you on being right.. and alot of us laughed at you for speaking too soon.
So the POINT is we did know your "mindset", which was favre would come back to pakcers in 2008 and you thought they woudl be good based on that

Actually no DB. As you've pointed out several times to me, my mindset was that the old man was retired and would not be coming back. When it became clear that he really was serious about coming back, I thought it would be in Green Bay. I was mistaken.
But even after Favre's retirement, I predicted the Packers would be "good enough" to win 10 games and make the playoffs. But as for deep in the playoffs with an unknown quarterback? Maybe... maybe not. But it's easily enough of a "maybe not" that would prevent me from wagering on it.

So if you made this bet at the time of when you were 'sure" favre was coming back AND be a Packer and you "thought" even with rodgers you were a 10+ team. and playoff bound. WHy wouldn't you think WITH FAVRE you could go further than the pats in 2008?
you are not making sense.

Dinky, if you don't like my explanation, fine. Leave it alone then. You don't have to attach a bunch of evil intentions to it.
I am calling you a liar. I know the bet was made, and I know you are smart enough to remember a bet you made here. I guess if you can convince me that you are not smart enough to keep track of bets you make here, then I will chalk it up to poor memory. But I find it impossible to believe knowing your posts and intelligence that you forgot...even when reminded.
As far as dropping it, I told you I consider both of the bets done. It has been dropped. This is not about the bets...they no longer exist. This is about my ability to trust your word here.
As far as what you wrote abo ut the bet, you wrote you would have likely remembered such a bet, that you would not have made the bet without a Favre proviso, and that the bet would have originally been posted here, as that is your method of operation. To you, all of this is evidence that the bet never existed. You sou are saying that the bet never existed...I say it did. So call me a liar. Don't fluff up your posts with bull.
I'm not sure what is up with you. I know the bet was made, and I know you are not so dumb as to forget about it. And again, if you believe me that the bet was made you wouldn't have even argued about it. You would have just wrote, "Gee, Dink, I don't recall the bet, but I know you to be honest, so a bet's a bet." Instead, you repeatedly post reasons why you believe no bet exists...ie...I'm a liar.
So yes, I'm about honest communication. Quit hinting that I am a liar and come right out and accuse me of it...after all, this is my clever littler plot to possibly trick you out of $20...I guess in your world, you caught me.
Oh, and as far as why I brought the bet up again now...in case you haven't noticed, football season starts this week. I wanted to make sure the bets were on before the season started. Now I know...they are OFF (or, in your mind, they never even existed).
