I was born in 1976 and the doctors were puzzled that i came out with a payton jersey on.  So for me 32 years...and counting.

Re: How long have you been a Bears fan?

Started watching football at about 4 and just liked watching the players pound each other. But once starting favoring an actual team (Da Bears!) at age 9. Was a 'Daddy's Girl'(growing up in WI) even though he and I would really get into it when his Packers and my Bears would play, but that made it even more fun. :) So, been a Bears fan for 31 years no matter whether they win or lose.

Re: How long have you been a Bears fan?

As long as I've been watching football. My dad and I aren't exactly what you call close. There's no animosity between us really, but we have very little in common and mostly go our own ways. But we usually find time to watch the Bears play when we can.

    dilligaf:

Been a Bears fan since I was old enough to form my own opinions on what teams I like. Became a Bears fan in the 85 season when I was 7 years old.

Growing up in Erie, everyone is either a Steelers fan or a Browns fan. It gets shoved down your throat. Most of my friends were (are) Steelers fans. I got so sick of hearing about the Steelers, and to a lesser extent, the Browns, that I decided I wanted to root for a team that nobody around here really cheered for. Since I loved Walter Payton, the Bears became an obvious choice. Stuck by their side ever since then!

So, roughly 22 years I have been a Bears fan.

My story is a carbon copy, except I live in  North Dakota.  So change the teams to the Packers and Vikings.

    God I hate the Vikings!

Re: How long have you been a Bears fan?

I'm from the UK, only discovered NFL when I was 10 years old, just about when it was first broadcast over here.  Pretty sure the first game I watched was San Francisco Vs Chicago....  The Bears Lost that (1984) but something about the Bears caught my attention and I became a fan after developing a great deal of respect for a certain player (34 anyone?) he drove me to take up the game myself .

Anyway,  In Answer to the question.  24 Years.  The Bears are MY team and that will never change!

I am now 47 years old and absolute die hard. Thru thick and thin, GO BEARS!

In 1985, I gave birth to my son on a Friday. I HAD to be home by Sunday to watch Walter play so I lied to the nurse on how I was feeling. Paid a little bit for that but it was worth it. Watched Walter break his record. AWESOME! GREAT MEMORY!

I live in  upper WI now and I won't let those peckerheads (my word for packer fans, note the lower case, no respect) get to me.

Re: How long have you been a Bears fan?

I've been a bears fan since I was a small child.  My first memory of a game was watching the Bears win the Superbowl in 1985 at the age of 3 sitting in my Moms lap.  To answer a previous question as to how some of us younger fans managed to get hooked growing up in the late 80's and 90's with several years of disappointing finishes.  It's simple the Bears are a part of Chicago's and ultimately it's citizens history.  The Bears have never once left or threatened to leave us as several teams have done recently of stadium, franchise rights, funding, etc.... **cough, cough COLTS cough, cough**  Their stadium sitting there on the lake front though renovated and "modernized" was build for the worlds fair.  And the players them selves while at times not the most talented have often had more class and character than their superstar counter parts throughout the NFL.  Not many teams are willing to stand up for their fans and release players who may be among the best in the league in skill, but simply can't keep themselves out of trouble.  The Players themselves have often gone above and beyond by setting up charities and organizations to help those who truly need it.  Like Chris Zorich and his foundation, who ran a thanksgiving food drive from the parking lot of soldier field my junior year of HS. And despite perhaps not being able to see him play it was neigh impossible for someone growing up in the late 80's and 90's not hear all the stories Walter Payton's generosity, or to feel his lose when the entire city of Chicago wept at his passing.  Stories of him pulling over and getting out of a limo, in a Tux, on his way to a dinner and helping two people change a tire in the mud.  With a franchise whose players are so devoted to their city and their fans it's hard not to grow up bleeding navy and orange, and I certainly can't wait to carry around my child in their first Chicago bears jersey or site on the couch and watch the monsters of the midway continue to do what they do best.

Re: How long have you been a Bears fan?

I'm new to the board but old to Da Bears. I'm from the UK and been a fan since I saw them play the pre season game in London in '86 against the Dallas Cowboys. Didn't know anything about their history or the game until that day and been a fan ever since. I was disappointed that I missed out on SBXX by 1 year but our day will soon come again and it won't be with Rex!

    Go Bears!

I was born in '83, my whole family has always been bears fans.   My dad and uncle went down for the SB XX in '85.  So pretty much my entire life, and I'm 25 now.

The Bears threatened to leave Chicago and move to Indiana just prior to the Ted Phillips hiring.
