Should Mike Singletary should have been considered as the head coach?

This team needs a strong no nonsense leader. When we went to the Super Bowl Ron Rivera got that defense going not Lovie. The fact that there is even a discussion about a Harris/Lovie contriversy is rediculus. Ditka wouldn't have put up with this. Nor would Buddy Ryan or Singletary. It appears that maybe some of the guys on this quit on Lovie. Maybe I'm wrong and i hope I am but that Cincy game looked like there was something fundamentally wrong with the attitude and execution of this team. And no one is pissed. Especially Love. Just one time I would love to see Lovie tear off his headset and get into some of these guys faces. We need to turn this around and I mean right now, The Browns game should not be an indicater

As much as I love Samurai Mike, he hasn't proven anything as a head coach. The 49ers are an average team that got humiliated at home by the Falcons. He barely has a winning record as a head coach.. And look at the Chargers. They have arguably the most talented defense in the league, yet they are still only middle of the pack when going by the numbers.. Fire and passion don't automatically translate into wins; in fact, the opposite is often true. Look at Belicek, or Tomlin. They don't get fired up; they're subdued coaches who focus on the X's and O's.

Ron riveria didn't get our defense going in the super bowl. Our defense failed miserably. I almost don't recall them showing up. Our secondary was eatin aliive in that game and we have had the same issues ever since.

Re: Should Mike Singletary should have been considered as the head coach?

This is a difficult one for me to tackle. I always thought that Lovie Smith was the right coach for this football team. I was so delighted that Lovie was named our head coach after coexisting with such pathetic losers as Dave Wannstedt and Dick Jauron. Perhaps my expectations on Lovie were too high. I still have confidence in Lovie. I saw one member of the message boards say that this is a divided team. If so, I hope that Lovie can bring them together. We don't have much time. A loss to the horrible Cleveland Browns would be too devastating to this team as well as devoted Chicago Bears fans as myself. If you thought that the Bears are in such horrific shape now, at least Eric Mangini is not in charge of our team. That guy is the most pathetic big-time loser of them all.

As for Mike Singletary, I think it's great what he's doing in San Francisco. The Niners have been perennial losers for the last 15 years and Mike has changed the culture within that franchise. I think the home loss to the Falcons was an abberation. The Niners are ready to compete on a weekly basis. Singletary also has keen football smarts as he knew when to play quarterback Alex Smith. It's a shame that the Niners wasted a game in Houston. The bottom line is that Singlemary is the real deal. I sure wish we had him on our team.

The 49's almost beat the Vikings. 'That's taking an underdog and save for a last second pull it out of your fanny hail mary pulling off an upset. We should do so well.

Re: Should Mike Singletary should have been considered as the head coach?

I'm not saying Singletary won't turn out to be a good coach. I wanted to see him with a full season under his belt, which he hasn't had yet. He has done some very good things, and some very bad things (at least clock management wise IMO), and is playing with huge holes at some positions and still getting some results.

So like I said, he may turn out to be a good coach if he can prove consistent. But for people on here to shoe him in because he was an '85 bear or because he is "fiery" and likes to chew the scenery for the cameras, and to say that he is more qualified to coach the Bears than Lovie because of that, well, I think that's laughable.

I know the old rank and file will misconstrue this as a defense of Lovie, but it's not. It is what it is.

Judge Singletary, pro or con, after a full season.

No this is the NFL, not high school. While I do prefer more passionate coaches the fact is what matters at this level is the X's and O's. Players are not dumb. They buy into what works. No amount of yelling is going to make up for a bad system, or make them truly believe in a system.    ( I'm not saying Mikes philosophy is bad just untested.)

What the Bears need to do is go out and get a proven head coach. No one is gonna get out of line or be play uninspired with Shanahan or Cowher etc at the helm. Their plans are proven, and their resumes speak for themselves not only to fans but to the players as well.

    Martz Offenses
    217 INTS in 10 years
AVG of 21.7 INTS per season.
AVG of 22.4 INTS per season since 99

    8 of 10 seasons 20+ INT's
    9 of 10 seasons 19+INT's

I don't wanna hear Jay booed a single time next year. This is what a lot of you asked for!

Um, maybe because (1) the defense was tired after having pretty much propped up the offense all season and (2) they were playing against Peyton Manning, Dallas Clark, Joseph Addai, and Marvin Harrison?  That may have had something to do with the loss....the Colts were just a great team.  Jeez.

Fact of the matter is that since Ron Rivera left, this defense has not been the same.  Gotten progressively worse each season.

Not to mention this 'no nonsense' leader of men who is all about discipline and fire is coaching the most penalized (read: mistakes, lack of discipline, bad coaching) team in the league.

I'm in San Francisco every month for a week.   Just got back after being there a full week (including the loss at home to the dreadful Seahawks) and he may be LESS popular there than Lovie is here.
    No thanks.
