The Packers are not as bad as it seems.  They will need time to gel offensively.  I am a little confused by their defense, thought it was better than what they have shown.  Favre should have retired, he really is hurting the future of the team by being out there, namely the development of Rodgers... I guess Favre has earned it but he really is in a no win situation.  With what he has to work with he is just not in a position to succeed.  The Packers really need to find out if Rodgers can play.  If they wait too long and find he is not good it will push them back even further in their attempt to turn it around.  Shermie has done so much damage to the talent of that team... should have listened to Plank and I and called that owners meeting years ago....cheers.

I can't argue with any of that. I don't think Favre needs to retire though. But he's simply no longer a fit in Green Bay. The Packers should trade him, while they can still get something for him. Favre can still play. But he needs talent to play with.

There’s been plenty of blame dumped on Favre.  Some of it is deserved, since he has clearly kept the team (and its fans) dangling for a few years running.  But playing Favre’s advocate (and it’s an unpleasant thing for a lifelong Bear fan to do), what’s he supposed to do?  His body and arm are telling him he’s still got the skills, and playing football is what he does.  Why should he be coerced – forced – out of the line-up, just because the team’s fortunes have sunk?  

 

Favre himself has contributed, surely, to that precipitous (and GLORIOUS! – ahem) decline.  He has always “tried to do too much” (i.e. thrown god-awful passes instead of tossing them out of bounds or taking sacks), but in the past, there was enough talent around him to compensate for his oft-erratic play.  But now, he gets much less time to throw, has fewer reliable targets, and what’s more (and what’s clearly not his fault), he is saddled with a defense that can’t stop the opposition, putting him in the untenable position of throw, throw, and throwing again.

Exactly.  He's done one thing for the Packers.  And that is now that he is with Texas.  He probably advised them to take the trade for Gado.  The kid the Packers picked up is doing pretty good.  That will be some legacy if the best personnel move Shermie pulls off for the Packers is when Shermie left to Texas.

Good points... perhaps he should seek a trade but he already has said he will not go.  Maybe the best comment made regarding Favre was Bradshaw, who simply stated his mental (mind) left the game years ago.  He still has physical skills but his mind is just not in.  Proof being Favre's comment on being traded... basically said it would be too much pressure.  Too much expectation.  Sounds like a player that is content on playing out his career to chase a record and is allowed to do so because the fans of GB and the organization itself will allow it.

Hey wart, the "kid" the Packers picked up fumbled inside the 10 yard line in their last game.  Not sure I would call that doing pretty good.  He did get "garbage" time yards when the game was out of hand which is pretty much what Ahman Green has done this year as well.
