They'll have another year to turn one of the drafted WRs into something or make a big trade for a big name.

Angelo pretty much sealed himself into the job with the Cutler trade and then doing pretty good in the draft with little to work with no matter how the season goes.

All that said, I really don't see how we could manage to not make the playoffs.

Re: If the Bears do not make the playoffs this year.......

Hawk76:

Yuck:

Is the coaching staff gone? This of course with the assumption that Cutler doesn't go down, or some other devastating injury problem. Provided everyone stays relatively healthy, I can't see Lovie and the gang sticking around if they don't make the postseason. At least I don't think they should be allowed to.

Well they'd probably be gone by default. I think if this team fails to make the playoffs Angelo's refusal to do anything about the receiving core will be held against him. I think he'd be gone and G.M.s usually like to bring in their own coaches.

I think Turner is the one really on the hot seat. Should we make the playoffs but not make it that far I think'll he'll be gone. While he's coordinated some Bears records, thats not saying much compared to the rest of the league. He now has enough talent to build a solid offense. If it crashes he's gone, and I think Shannahan will be brought in. Personally I think that already would have been done if Angelo wasn't a little worried about his job. People say Shannahan wants full control, but at heart he's an offensive guy. He's been a QB coach and an offensive coordinator for a long time. He drafted Jay and would love to get a SB with him under center. I could see him "settling" for an O.C. position and getting to do what he loves to do best without having all the headaches of upper management. And by bringing him in as an O.C. or possibly even head coach Angelo could limit the possibility that Shannahan could replace him.

Re: If the Bears do not make the playoffs this year.......

Yuck:

Is the coaching staff gone? That being in the 90's with eric kramer. He also proved it again in 2006 when Grossman and Berrian were clicking. Turner loves to grind it out and then toss up a few bombs in here and there. When QBs in his offense have been able to connect on some of those big plays it makes the run game so much smoother.

Yes, when a QB hooks up with a WR for the deep bomb on a regular basis it does open up the running game. And that has nothing to do with Ron Turner, it's just the nature of the game. Big pass plays force defenses to cover receivers, and that leaves the RB a lot of room to make big plays on the ground.

The way I see it, Ron Turner isn't a very good offensive coordinator (MANY Bear fans agree). His bone-headed play calling has lost us quite a few games in recent years. If you disagree, that's fine, but I will keep my opinion and make it public whenever I choose to. You see, I dislike Ron Turner and don't have any faith that he can lead our Chicago Bears to a Superbowl victory. To be honest, I think his bone-head play calling had a lot to do with our loss to Indy. Turner has shown me time and time again that he simply can't adjust his gameplan. He's one dimensional at best...and I look forward to the day that he's no longer a part of the Bears organization.

Re: If the Bears do not make the playoffs this year.......

Turner has already proven what he can do with a real QB.
I am doing the same this year with the playoffs, success, worth the loss of cash, failure, someone else pays for my beer.

You do realize that Lovie has coached the Bears to a very respectable win/loss record in his time with the Bears, right? It's been one heck of a turn around from where we were in the mid 90's. But if we fail to make the playoffs for a 3rd straight season, a head or two is going to roll. It won't be Lovie, but Ron Turner might be sent packing. And that would be alright with me...

I usually pull my hair out reading the stupid *^#* people post in this forum. It's nice when some one with common sense posts.

Anyway , We are going into this season with some big question marks. ( WR being the biggest )
Lovie wont be going any where regardless of how this season turns out. He is a good coach and will be here for a while. I am interested to see what Turner can do with a real QB but i think your right. If we don't make the play off's he will be gone.
