Is any Hall of Fame QB working with REX to help him and Bears?

Is any Hall of Fame QB working with REX to help him and Bears?

Just curious as the Benson story is the big thing and without Rex getting proper coaching and teaching - the Bears are still figuring to be a sub .500 team after being pciked to return to the SB

Re: Is any Hall of Fame QB working with REX to help him and Bears?

Thanks for the thread as I was just thinking about this the other day due to some reports out of Cardinals Camp.  Listening to sports radio down here in Az on Monday many of the guys were talking about how Matt Leinart looked much better than in years past even though he still hasn't fully recovered from his season ending injury.  Reports are he worked hard after he was hurt and into this offseason on his footwork and apparently it was quite evident this past weekend.

That stroy led me to this question? How hard does Rex really work on his correcting his footwork? I mean it's not like the Bears just found out recently that he could improve in this area! So is it the coach or the student that is the problem? After a number of years I would think that Rex would have picked up on some things like this.  Now I will never question Rex's arm or heart but something has to give right?

I don't think anyone in our organization has an idea of how to groom a QB since Chandler left.  I still don't really understand that one, he had a good rapport w/ Grossman and didn't mind helping him out, Chandler was quality QB(or at least at one time was) and could have helped Rex out in his first few years.  Instead Rex only had the likes of Quinn before he was the most established one on the roster.  I am not counting Griese because as far as an inconsistent QB goes, old Brian proved he was nothing but his entire career.

Grossman is the type of QB that needs several inches added to his height, the Patriots O-line, Pro Bowl caliber receivers and a great O-Coordinator to be successful in the NFL. Unfortunately he has none of these things.

We've had 3 new QB coaches in the past 4 years.  All our QB coaches always suck.   Um.... maybe its rex.

The Bears actually brought in Kurt Warner in '04 and had a great interview, but he opted to sign with the Giants because they were offering him to start, and the Bears wanted him to back up Grossman.  Of course Warner started the first few games of the season, and rookie Eli finished.  Would have been interesting if Chicago guaranteed Kurt a chance to start by having a QB competition.  Too bad.  Rest is history  when Rex went down, then it became the Quinn-Krenzel-Hutchinson stooges show, Bears ended up with a bad record, then drafted Benson, etc.

Grossman is on his 3rd offensive coordinator in 5 years, his 3rd QB coach....who knows what he can be if he could be coached up.

All I know is that Ron Turner has never played QB...and Pep Hamilton is not in the HOF......so WHAT exactly are they teaching him?

I don't know why they don't hire a Mariucci or a Steve Young or Jaworski to come in and work with him.  They used to pay Munoz to help teach the linemen, wouldn't it be more important to teach your QB?

Good point, I had just "assumed" management knew what it was doing since it's so basic etc.

Re: Is any Hall of Fame QB working with REX to help him and Bears?

This is the third year for Grossman in Turner's system, his QB coaches never really got involved in Grossman's development until Hamilton did last year, Grossman is not and will not be the answer to the Chicago Bears QB problem, and this problem WILL not go away until JA drafts one in 09 or trades for an established starter and the Bears hire a QB coach who knows how to teach a QB.

What's the use Grossman is leaving next year anyways. He only has a 1 year contract, and will bail if he has a decent year.
