Re: Official 08-09 Season thread.
What bullcrap!!! I like the young guys but they have too many. They spend too much time in their own zone. This team needs a good vet D man and a 2nd line goal scoring center. They also need a real good face off man. This is unacceptable....period.

I like how he passed up a chance for another goal when he gave it to Toews to score the empty netter. It was too bad time ran out first.

thicknthin:Are the Hawks going to keep Khabibulin? Is he healthy?
He is healthy but overpaid so the Hawks were dead set on moving him. No one wanted his salary so they're stuck with him for now. They want his salary off the books so they can get another center for the second line and possibly another defenseman. The Hawks are extremely high on Niemi and Crawford in the minors and think both could be playing in the NHL right now. Right now the only way I can see him going is to send him through waivers again, send him to Rockford, then recall him and have another team claim him while he's on re-entry waivers. At that point the Hawks would only be responsible for half his salary while the other team picks up the other half.

I think I get the picture now. Khabi is 36 yrs old now so it all depends how long he would likt play or is able to. I never thought Khabi had much of a chance to succeed in Chicago with such poor defense .....but its getting better! I hope he plays well as long as he`s here ....I`m not sold on Huet yet.

Re: Official 08-09 Season thread.
Huet has never been a # 1 goalie...the most he's played is @ 50 games in a season. I don't get this signing at all. Some say McDonough pushed for him...I'm like he doesn't know crap about hockey. Maybe Bowman??...not sure I'm liking the Bowmans in this organization right now.

McDonough should have absolutely no say in anything to do with the players on the team. His background is in marketing and he helped turn the Cubs into the insanely popular team they are now through his marketing ideas. Leave the hockey decisions to those in the know. As for the Bowmans, there is no denying Scotty knows his crap and his 9 rings are proof of it. However it's become pretty clear that Tallon is just a figurehead at GM and I assume the Hawks are just waiting for the chance to cut him loose(he is the last man in the front office from the old regime). Scotty answered more questions than Tallon at Quenneville's press conference which shows he probably has more pull than Tallon. As for Stan, he's the assistant GM and I'm not so sure he has any more experience than Tallon(which was none when he was hired) but probably listens to what his father tells him. With Huet, I don't necessarily think he was brought in here to be the #1. I think the plan all along was to use a rotating goalie system. However, they hoped to get rid of Habby and use the goalie rotation with Niemi and Crawford to get them playing time in the NHL without making them the #1 or permanent backup. That way they'd get more playing time than strictly being a number 2 but still have a #1 with NHL experience.

I get what you're saying but....Huet is NOT a # 1 goalie and I know all about McDonoughs credentials...
If they want to make the playoffs...Huet and a combo of the kids isn't gonna get it done so he's his own worst enemy ( McDonough)

Re: Official 08-09 Season thread.
Lost to Detroit 6-5 in the shootout after blowing another 3rd period lead.
Versteeg, Johnson, Eager, Havlat, and Kane with the goals.
3-2-3...9 points.
