Hey, an 11-5 Bears season is no fantasy

A month ago the Bears' schedule would have gone directly to the agate page.

Now it's big news with King Cutler the new sheriff in town, to say nothing of the new quarterback/savior.

Turning the Bears' 2009 schedule upside down

Here is an interesting stat courtesy of ESPN.com blogger Mike Sando. He reports that the Arizona Cardinals are 1-15 in road games that begin at 10 a.m. Pacific time when they're not playing at the St. Louis Rams. The Bears host the Cardinals on Nov. 8. That game is scheduled to kick at noon or 10 PT.

Re: Hey, an 11-5 Bears season is no fantasy

    good stuff:

*** This marks the fourth consecutive season the Bears are scheduled to have five prime-time games.
*** The bye week comes at a good time for the Bears in Week 5. That gives them extra time to prepare for their Oct. 18 game at Atlanta.

    ***
On the flip side, bye weeks work out for the Bears. They don't have a single opponent on the schedule that will get an extra week to prepare for them. Every Bears' opponent has a game the week before the Bears face them.
*** Some consider Minnesota to be the Bears' chief competition this season. They meet in Weeks 12 and 16. That is the latest in the season the Bears and Vikings have ever played for the first time in a season since the league expanded to 16-game seasons in 1978.

*** Speaking of the end of the Vikings' schedule, it's no picnic.

Week 12 Bears at Vikings Week 13 Vikings at Cardinals
    Week 14 Bengals at Vikings
    Week 15 Vikings at Panthers
    Week 16 Vikings at Bears
    Week 17 Giants at Vikings

*** The Bears had a two-game road trip to open the 2008 season and then endured a three-game road trip in November. Their schedule is more balanced this time around. There is just one two-week stretch away from Soldier Field--at Atlanta and then at Cincinnati.
*** Go ahead and crank up the hype machine for the Nov. 12 date at San Francisco. The Bears will head in to face the 49ers, coached by Bears Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary.
*** Here is an interesting stat courtesy of ESPN.com blogger Mike Sando. He reports that the Arizona Cardinals are 1-15 in road games that begin at 10 a.m. Pacific time when they're not playing at the St. Louis Rams. The Bears host the Cardinals on Nov. 8. That game is scheduled to kick at noon or 10 PT.
*** This is the fifth straight year and the eighth time in 10 years the Bears have opened the season away from home.
*** The Bears are 3-1 in season openers played in prime time, including their victory at Indianapolis last season.
*** Pittsburgh comes to Soldier Field on Sept. 20 and it will be the Steelers' first visit since Nov. 5, 1995. That is the longest stretch for any team in the league. The next closest is Cleveland, who comes in Week 8, and the Browns were last at Soldier Field for a memorable overtime game Nov. 4, 2001.
Here are some quick thoughts on the 16 games.

Wrapping up our National (Football League) holiday

    April 14, 2009 9:54 PM

    Posted by ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert

Hope you all enjoyed the quick-fire analysis in Tuesday's inaugural national holiday/NFL schedule release for the ESPN blog network. I've sifted through your comments and the mailbag and wanted to make a few points:

    1. Based on the 2008 records of its opponents, Minnesota has the easiest opening schedule in the NFL. The winning percentage of the Vikings' first four opponents was .266, and their first eight was .375. (Green Bay is a close second on the latter statistic at .380.) Allison Wachs of ESPN Stats & Information ran the numbers.

Re: Hey, an 11-5 Bears season is no fantasy

Bears are winning anywhere from 11-14 games depending on how well the D performs. I truly think a couple of young WRs are going to emerge and look darn goot much like Marshall and Royal did with Cutler. Hester is going to put up over 1000 yards and the other WR should get opportunities to get the ball with Olsen and Hester opening things up. People really underestimate the effects of a quality QB who has the talent that Cutler has. Doubters are in for a surprise.

I am confident about the bears being above 500. However, the bears defense will need to play better in order to win the division and or make a push in the playoffs. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the defense as a result of the last game of the season vs texans.

At worst we can be 8-8, just because Packers are a rivalry game. I see us 9-7 for sure, based on games in red can go either way.

agree on those being the swing games.. But maybe its just because cards do not go east well, i really do think we kill them( think somethign like 1-13 last  3  years going east)...and vikes IMO will come down to June 15th and the trial.. "IF" the willams 4 games suspension is upheld, i really think they will be the dissapointment of teh NFL in 2009 and never recover from teh slide( esp with that really hard december)

The really good news for bears is BOTH the pakcers and vikes have a real tough december games ANd on road for it, while the bears ahve a much easier december and home for more games, if the race is tight really favors bears down the stretch

    I predict 9-7 again, give or take 1 win/loss.

You're all forgetting about the intangibles.  Just because we play the Bengals or Seahawks, does not guarantee a win.  Sure, they should be easy games, but that isn't how it always works out.  Hell, we might just lose to the Lions.  Now, I doubt that will happen.  But, this is the NFL and teams do manage to still lose winnable games every year.

Every game is winnable but that doesn't mean the win will happen.

soo going by YOUR LOGIC doen't that mean WEW IL WIN some guys expected to lsoe? or we only lsoe games expected to win, unlike other teams?

    We went 9-7

Upgraded the qb vastly from orton to culter, which also automatically upgrades the Wr and TE 's by his passing ability and helps forte even more as the "D" must respect cutler deep, so he has better running lanes, so really upgrades 3 positiosn for 1

upgraded the LT vastly from st. clair to pace RT with shaffer/willams over a hurt tait and giard depth and size with Omiyale.

I can't wait for the Cincinnati game so maybe our defense can make Benson whimper like he did in camp.  "They hit me too hard, coach.  Don't make me go back out there, please?!?!"  LMAO

    OOOOOOOOOOH I CAN'T WAIT!
