    Offseason Thread

Well the Hawks are now done for the year.

Here are the free agents on the Hawks:

    Unrestricted:
    -Martin Havlat
    -Nikolai Khabibulan
    -Samuel Pahlsson
    -Matt Walker
    -Aaron Johnson

    Restricted:
    -Dave Bolland
    -Troy Brouwer
    -Ben Eager
    -Kris Versteeg
    -Colin Fraser
    -Cam Barker

I'm including these two because one has to be signed, if not both
    -Antii Niemi
    -Corey Crawford

Perhaps I may become a highwayman again.
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain,
    But I will remain,
And I'll be back again, and again, and again..."

    Re: Offseason Thread

Out of the UFAs...Havlat has to be re-signed.

They need a D man who can score and has some size

They need another scoring centerman that is also good on face offs

They need a # 1 goalie because Huet isn't it.

Just heard it on ESPN radio, they didn't say who the others were. It might be on their site as well, not sure. I usually don't listen to them but I hate Boers n Bernstein

    -Corey Crawford

So here is who I think the Hawks have to sign among their FA's.
    -Havlat:I don't think I need to explain
-Bolland: He may not light it up offensively, but the Havlat-Bolland-Ladd line was lights out this year defensively.
-Versteeg: Only gonna get better and has only been in the league 1 year.
-Crawford: With Khabi most likely gone he'll most likely be #2, unless the Hawks go get someone in FA again.

If the Hawks play their cards right, they could have 2 top scoring lines, a 3rd line that is lights out defensively and can score, and a high energy line.

I'd like to see them resign Eager and Barker. Barker is starting to come into his own and I don't think we should bail on him now. If he doesn't work out you can trade him.

Yeah, I agree with it pretty much. I'm hoping we start getting some "home town discounts" like Detroit does, since they'd be way over the cap if they paid market price for their players.

I'm not sure about bring Pahlsson back unless he's going to be the 4th line center. He doesn't score enough to be the second line center IMO.

Walker and Johnson are most likely gone and one will be replaced by Hendry most likely.

As the roster stands right now(not including minor leaguers):

    Kane-Toews-Sharp
    ?-?-Buff
    Ladd-?-?
    ?-Burish-?

    Keith-Seabrook
    Campbell-Hjalmarsson
    ?-?
    ?

Assuming they resign Havlat, Bolland, and Versteeg:

    Kane-Toews-Sharp
    Versteeg-?-Buff
    Ladd-Bolland-Havlat
    ?-Burish-?

    Keith-Seabrook
    Campbell-Hjalmarsson
    Hendry-?
    ?

    Re: Offseason Thread

No big loss if Paulson doesn't sign as you stated...I'd like to keep Barker...if they lose Walker, I'm ok with that but they need a D man that can move guys away from the net and score more than Walker does.

The players have to realize that if they want to win a cup here and they can if most players stay, they can't break the bank.

Just saw Tallon on Comcast and Havlat too....Havlat wants to be here and Tallon has talked to his agent today....sounds like things may work...Paulson wants to stay also as does Khabby but Havalt is the priority.

    Re: Offseason Thread

I love Khabby, but I'm not sure if we NEED him. If Huet can keep what he did, then he's solid. We can use the cap room.

I still don't want to see the Bulin wall go though.

Agreed N&O w/ Resignning on havlat ... i'd like to see Khabby resigned if he comes cheap ( not sure he will) And i know alot of people call me crazy I'd like to see Huet again, i know he was inconsistent. but only time will tell. Havlat #1 concern, they gotta keep this team together. N&O what do you think about Campbell ??? thats one i cant decide on and not exactly sure why lol beer [*B*]

Various sources(TSN, NHL Network) are reporting Bolland has agreed to a 5 year, $18 million contract.

Nothing official from the Hawks as he has reportedly agreed to the deal but not signed yet.

    Re: Offseason Thread

Bolland's contract seems to have been confirmed by everyone other than the Hawks.

Unconfirmed reports that we signed Dowell and Niemi as well.

Free Agency starts tomorrow at 11am CST and rumors are Havlat and the Hawks are close to a deal but Montreal may throw a ton of money at him.

Bolland, Niemi, and Dowell all re-signed and confirmed by the Hawks.

Hawks signed Hossa and Kopecky as stated in another thread.

    Khabi signed in Edmonton
    Walker signed with Tampa Bay.

    Re: Offseason Thread

That Hossa signing was badass. Hossa is a major upgrade over Havlat and is the 3rd most prolific goal scorer in the NHL. Sucks losing Khabi, but if the Pens can win a cup with Fleury we can win one with Huet. If they resign Versteeg we'd be set, just need to make sure they set aside about 8-9 mil for next year to resign Kane Toews and Keith.

    Re: Offseason Thread

Offseason moves are what I expected, nothing really big has happened. We got Hossa but lost Havlat which is an upgrade.

I don't know what to think of Huet. Hopefully all he needs in consistent playing time but he was brutal at times last year.

I'm wondering what the lines will be, I'm gonna guess something like:

    Kane-Toews-Hossa
    Sharp-Bolland-Ladd
    Buff-Kopecky/Madden-Brouwer
    Eager-Madden/Kopecky-Burish

    Keith-Seabrook
    Campbell-Barker
    Hjalmarsson-Sopel
    Johnson
