If the Bears do not make the playoffs this year.......

Is the coaching staff gone? This of course with the assumption that Cutler doesn't go down, or some other devastating injury problem. Provided everyone stays relatively healthy, I can't see Lovie and the gang sticking around if they don't make the postseason. At least I don't think they should be allowed to.

I think Lovie's in jeopardy if they fail to make the playoffs. That said, we win the division.

I say we trade Cutler, and sign Brett Favre. Than bring in Mike Holmgren and his coaching staff.

That being said. If we don't make the playoffs this entire coaching staff will be on extremely thin ice...

If we don't make the playoffs this year, then Lovie and most of his staff is gone. There is no doubt about that. Angelo gave Lovie the tools to win with, if he doesn't get the job done, then JA will can the guy, along with Turner, Drake, Babich and nearly everyone except Marinelli, Toub and maybe Hoke.

Re: If the Bears do not make the playoffs this year.......

I really think it depends. Like for example if Cutler gets injured, then nothing will happen to the current staff. The other thing, is it would have to be a definite upgrade at HC. Not a gamble. Someone like a Shanahan, Holmgren or Cowher possibly. Ron Turner going would be the first step though IMHO.

"Among NFC teams, only the Giants have a better regular-season record than the Bears since 2005. The Giants are 41-23 in that period and the Bears are 40-24. That gives the Bears a winning percentage of .625, tied with the Cowboys for sixth-best in the NFL since '05."

Add on top of that, 2 division titles and a conference championship in the past 5 years, plus finally owning the Packers....I think he has some leeway.

If anything, his major flaw is sticking with his coordinators too long. I think we're going to see a completely different defense this year with him calling the plays.

You do realize that Lovie has coached the Bears to a very respectable win/loss record in his time with the Bears, right?  It's been one heck of a turn around from where we were in the mid 90's.  But if we fail to make the playoffs for a 3rd straight season, a head or two is going to roll.  It won't be Lovie, but Ron Turner might be sent packing.  And that would be alright with me...

Fire the coaching staff. Drop the entire offensive line. Drop the entire defense (aside from Briggs). Trade Cutler, Forte, Olsen and Briggs for draft picks. Start over from scratch...

Anyway , We are going into this season with some big question marks. ( WR being the biggest )
Lovie wont be going any where regardless of how this season turns out. He is a good coach and will be here for a while. I am interested to see what Turner can do with a real QB but i think your right. If we don't make the play off's he will be gone.

Re: If the Bears do not make the playoffs this year.......

I honestly dont think lovie is going anywhere for awhile unless he has like 3 losing seasons in a row. He is not a bad head coach and he has turned a pretty crap team when he got it into a contender, on top of that he got a new contract so i dont think he will be going anywhere for at least the next 3 seasons if they are losing seasons

It depends. If they BARELY miss the playoffs, like, go 10-6 and miss off of a tiebreaker, then Lovie's safe. If this team goes 7-9? I want to say Ron Turner and Bob Babich are gone, but Lovie stays, just because I think Lovie is one of the best coaches in the NFL.

I had a £50 bet in UK on the Colts for the SB, my theory was simple, Its well worth losing £50 for the SB success, and if they lost, well the bookies have paid for my beer and food on SB Night.

I am doing the same this year with the playoffs, success, worth the loss of cash, failure, someone else pays for my beer.

    but...

Chicago will make the playoffs this season and most likely will face either NY Giants or Philadelphia in the NFC Championship Game at Soldier Field

Re: If the Bears do not make the playoffs this year.......

Turner has already proven what he can do with a real QB. That being in the 90's with eric kramer. He also proved it again in 2006 when Grossman and Berrian were clicking. Turner loves to grind it out and then toss up a few bombs in here and there. When QBs in his offense have been able to connect on some of those big plays it makes the run game so much smoother.

Yes, when a QB hooks up with a WR for the deep bomb on a regular basis it does open up the running game.  And that has nothing to do with Ron Turner, it's just the nature of the game.  Big pass plays force defenses to cover receivers, and that leaves the RB a lot of room to make big plays on the ground.

The way I see it, Ron Turner isn't a very good offensive coordinator (MANY Bear fans agree).  His bone-headed play calling has lost us quite a few games in recent years.  If you disagree, that's fine, but I will keep my opinion and make it public whenever I choose to.  You see, I dislike Ron Turner and don't have any faith that he can lead our Chicago Bears to a Superbowl victory.  To be honest, I think his bone-head play calling had a lot to do with our loss to Indy.  Turner has shown me time and time again that he simply can't adjust his gameplan.  He's one dimensional at best...and I look forward to the day that he's no longer a part of the Bears organization.

Well they'd probably be gone by default. I think if this team fails to make the playoffs Angelo's refusal to do anything about the receiving core will be held against him. I think he'd be gone and G.M.s usually like to bring in their own coaches.

I think Turner is the one really on the hot seat. Should we make the playoffs but not make it that far I think'll he'll be gone. While he's coordinated some Bears records, thats not saying much compared to the rest of the league. He now has enough talent to build a solid offense. If it crashes he's gone, and I think Shannahan will be brought in. Personally I think that already would have been done if Angelo wasn't a little worried about his job. People say Shannahan wants full control, but at heart he's an offensive guy. He's been a QB coach and an offensive coordinator for a long time. He drafted Jay and would love to get a SB with him under center. I could see him "settling" for an O.C. position and getting to do what he loves to do best without having all the headaches of upper management.

Re: If the Bears do not make the playoffs this year.......

It would depend on how the season goes. I think the powers that be are able to look at more than the scoreboard.

If Turner can't utilize Cutler at all I'd say he's gone.

If the defense looks like crap odds are good that Lovie is gone.

If both sides are improved but it just doesn't get done I don't think there will be any changes.
I don't think Cutler alone is looked at as an instant fix. They'll have another year to turn one of the drafted WRs into something or make a big trade for a big name.

Angelo pretty much sealed himself into the job with the Cutler trade and then doing pretty good in the draft with little to work with no matter how the season goes.

All that said, I really don't see how we could manage to not make the playoffs.

Barring any major injury, I think that if the Bears do not make the playoffs, both Lovie and JA are gone.

They have both been given what they need to turn this ship around and I think the expectations are in line what what should be accomplished.
