Why dont the Bears get him???????

Matt Jones would be the perfect possession wide receiver that the Bears need.

Here is an article that I hope he has changed and the bears give him a look.

Re: Why dont the Bears get him???????

He's got some talent but he's one strike away from a serious suspension from the league. Although I don't know anything about Matt Jones and his ability to kick the cocaine habit I've learned not to bet on abusers kicking the habit REGARDLESS of the millions of $,$$$,$$$ they stand to lose. Probably a lost cause. Best of luck though.

Enuff about the cocaine jokes, all jokes aside, IMO this guy would light it up here in Chicago, a change of scenery would help this guy (as does w/most problematic players) and considering how cheap he would come, would not be a bad idea. As far as the coke thing...at least if he gets popped by the greenbay DBs, at least he won't feel it.

Re: Why dont the Bears get him???????

i really doubt it happens. with a new QB they would want to get him in asap if they were remotely interested.

the thing people need to realize is that while this WR corps doesnt have a lot of experience, it does have a lot of potential. anyone they bring in will just mean that they have to cut a young guy which will hurt them down the road.

obviously it would make sense to bring in a guy like Boldin but the options that are actually available arent worth dropping someone with potential.

From what I've read, he's lazy and goes down easily on first contact. Not worth the trouble.

If our young WRs struggle in MC (excluding Knox, he catches everything) we should snatch him up before someone else does because come game one against the cheeseheads, if our WRs cannot beat the jam by their very good DBs we're in trouble. The last thing we need is to start 0-2...remember we have last year's #1 defense on week 2

He's dangerous goods -- awesome tools to be a good WR, just personal issues.

He probably wouldn't be expensive. I think it'd be wise to bring him in. He'd already be the 2nd best receiver on this team.

Re: Why dont the Bears get him???????

Shies away from contact. Doesn't sound like a possession receiver to me.

"There are only about a dozen NFL quarterbacks with the arm, charisma and willpower to carry a team to the Super Bowl. Cutler is on that list; Kyle Orton is not. Yet the Broncos gave Cutler away to the Bears because he didn’t make a positive first impression on new head coach Josh McDaniels. Franchise quarterbacks are harder to find than Super Bowl coaches. In fact, franchise quarterbacks often make Super Bowl coaches." -Rick Gosselin

I haven't heard anything to back-up the alleged "coke-head status."  Just because he happened to get arrested for possesion (in the middle of the off-season) doesn't make him a dope-fiend.  Aside from his arrest I've never heard of him skipping practices or missing meetings, or acting out a coke-enhanced manner.  It's ignorant to speak of this guy like he's Lawrence Taylor or Darryl Strawberry.

Hell, I tried it once back in 2001, since then I can count six or seven times that I've dabbled since then.  It's been a solid year+ since the last time I've been around it.  I wouldn't classify that as being a coke-head, but had I been in the wrong place and gotten arrested, all of a sudden I'd be considered an addict and would be sent to rehab/jail.

Did anyone here ever party with any D-1/NFL caliber players in college?  If not, sorry to say it guys, but this guy isn't a lone bad apple- he's just got caught.

Actually he is a coke head and was required to go to treatment. He has been arrested twice for this. He was also a locker room problem and the coaches couldn't get him to work hard on his game.

Actually you have no idea what you're talking about.  Anyone arrested for cocaine possesion is forced into a treatment program; regardless to if they've ever used.

I think it's safe to assume that if you are in possession of cocaine, you're going to use it.  Either that, or you're going to sell it.  Also, when he violated probation, he actually elected to go to jail instead of enroll in rehab.  Those poor decision skills don't work in his favor.
