Obama: 10.2 Percent Unemployment 'A Sobering Number'

    http://www.voanews.com/english/2009-11-06-voa49.cfm

So Wall Street is doing well now and unemployment continues to grow. Unemployment benefits have been extended costing more money when people would rather be employed. Companies in the IT industry are using offshore resources from India rather than hiring Americans. This Economy will not grow unless unemployment declines.

I would like to see Obama do something about the problem with hiring Indian workers for IT labor.

I thought when the rich were allowed to thrive they created millions of jobs? What's up?

The only thing that has gotten better since the stimulus is Wall Street.

Jester, I think you emphasize the Indian IT issue so much because you have direct experience with it.  It's just one of many problem we have.  But that's part of globalization and open markets.  You usually take a laissez-faire stance economically and complain about government over-reaching.

I do like smaller Government Ole69, but that doesn't mean I want total absense of Government. Offshore Indian workers have become a serious issue and it is gradually getting worse. I would even be happy with putting Indian workers on a level playing field with U.S workers. I have a problem with Government spending and creating bureaucracies.

Yes, of course it's one of many issues. And no I do not always have a Laissez-faire attitude towards global economics. In fact, I have been very consistent with my stance on global labor and competition. I have no problem with open trade with Europe and other countries that have similar labor laws and economies. China and India are not one of those economies.

I want them to regulate the private sector or trade with India and China. It will never happen with China though, they basically own us.

I think the adage, "it's easier to destroy than create" comes to mind.

Any president or administration can lose focus and do harm to the country in any number of ways.   Fixing those problems is always going to be harder.

This is by way of giving both Obama AND Bush a break.

I agree, getting out of the Wars we are in would certainly help that spending. Of course the budget would still be in place and they obviously won't cut that. Hopefully that money wouldn't be used for ridiculous Government programs/projects. We know what the alternative fuels are, we don't need to look for them anymore. We need to make some technology advances before we can leverage some of them cheaply.

We have abundant amounts of coal that CAN be used responsibly. France has used Nuclear power responsibly for years.

that is what i meant start building facilities that create alternative fuels like nuclear power plants another one is wind power that could power alot of the small towns in america now cities im not sure. Solar Power could also be used during the summers for alot of buildings. I do agree we do not need to waste money on stupid things right now. I do think that Train system they are building across the midwest is a good idea it would mean getting of some flying so we wouldn't have to get a new fleet as soon, also it will cut down on car travel.

That 10.2% figure is misleading. The "real" unemployment figure is more like 16-17%. The gov isn't counting people who have given up on looking for a job nor those who are underemployed.

The fact is coal production isn't going anywhere. Environmentalists will say coal can never be clean, which is true right now. However, there are ideas that will reduce it's impact to the environment such as pumping it deep underground. Every living creature deposits carbon when it dies. There are staggering amounts of carbon in the earth in addition to massive amounts of methane gas.

If mozart has such an issue with it he shouldn't be using any power or driving a car.

You want Obama to do something about the problem of hiring Indian workers for IT? You want him to tell companies who they can and can't hire? I thought you were for LESS government control?

I do like smaller Government Ole69, but that doesn't mean I want total absense of Government. Offshore Indian workers have become a serious issue and it is gradually getting worse. I would even be happy with putting Indian workers on a level playing field with U.S workers. I have a problem with Government spending and creating bureaucracies.

I don't know if it was his original idea (probably not) but Kerry once said there should be some kind of regualtion requiring American based companies to keep at least, say...75% of their workforce here.

Guess how THAT would go over on Fox.

I really could give 2 craps how it went over on FOX honestly....I would vote for the person that made that number 85% personally.

edit: lol, i can type the word relating to craps and it doesn't censor the word yet other words get censored LOLOLOL
