Is Jay Cutler the next Jack Concannon?

I brought this up earlier, but it seems to be lost on most bear fans.

Back in 1967, the bears traded Mike Ditka for the 1964 AFL Draft number one pick, Jack Concannon.

It was thought that Jack Concannon would be the "franchise QB" that the bears were missing.  The Packers had Bart Starr and dominated the bears from the late 1950's to the present time, so with Jack Concannon, the bears were supposed to turn it around.

But we now know that it was a futile trade.  The bears never improved with JC.

The similarities between Jack Concannon and Jay Cutler are stark.  Both first rounders, and only three years in the league when they were traded.

I suspect Jay Cutler will not do any better than Jack Concannon.  Here's to another JC QB.

    Cheers

Very original.  Reposting what you already said in another thread that most people have just ignored for a little while now, just so you can try to get more responses.  Drama queen Favre's got nothing on you, sacky.  You are a caricature of your former self.

I disagree that it is "baiting"....bait is just raw meat that animals decide if they want to go for it, or fish going for a worm on a hook.

I'm presenting history from your team.  If you wish to ignore it fine, I thought it was an interesting comparsison and thought it worthy to bring up on "RIVALS CENTRAL".

As IHTBs said, this is RIVALS CENTRAL and everypost COULD be considered "baiting".

I don't think it is "baiting", I think it is ironic and humorous.

I missed the thread a week ago.  I appreciate the repost.  I can only hope so.  Although I do understand that Cutler's success (or lack thereof) has nothing to do with the previous trade.

But I agree with IHTB's, in that it is Rival Central and I'd think if anything baiting could be encouraged.

This could have been posted on the main forum even, it is about the Bears and all.

Re: Is Jay Cutler the next Jack Concannon?

I posted a reply about an hour ago, perhaps it will eventually show up.  Essentially stating the obvious about Rival Central.

As for the "wasn't this already posted..."?

Well, technically yes, but it was buried in a thread titled, "If I'm back, I must have my own thread", which was dedicated to my return.

Since the subject of Jay Cutler and Jack Concannon was buried in that thread, and that thread has now been "deleted", It's imporanat enough to raise to the level of having it's own dedicated thread.

Well, I'm posting this now, at 1:10 PM Central time.  We shall see if this or the previous post will make it through moderation.

    Cheers

Wow.  That's amazing.  It's like the comparisons between JFK and Lincoln all over again.  How eerie.  They were both first round picks, and traded after three years in the league.

Wait, let me guess.  Cutler had a secretary named Concannon and Concannon had a secretary named Cutler, right?

I won't waste time arguing the merits of the Cutler trade with you, because I know you are not here for that.  Let me just tell you what my Wisconsin relatives have to say about this.  I have a lot of extended family in Wisconsin.  They are all Bears fans, of course.  Anyway, they have been discussing the Cutler trade with their Packer fan coworkers, neighbors, etc.  Here is something that might surprise you Wardi.  Almost every Packer fan they have talked to has expressed disappointment, anger, and fear over the trade.  They see what you would see, if you ever opened your eyes.  The Bears just picked up a legitimate franchise QB.  The Packer fans in Wisconsin are not happy about this.  For some reason, they wanted Grossman or Orton behind Olin Kreutz on opening night.  They are getting Cutler instead, and they don't like it.

So, go ahead and continue to post your lunatic theories about QBs having the same talent because they have the same initials.  It's entertaining I guess.  It gives you something to do, while waiting to see if Ted Thompson can find another Justin Harrell in the draft next weekend.

    Dear Ron Turner:

We have our franchise QB now. Please don't screw this season up. We are counting on you.

    Sincerely,

    Bears fans

Re: Is Jay Cutler the next Jack Concannon?

    Well, BFM,

So this is my THIRD post to this thread in 90 minutes.  The other two have yet to make it through the stringent editing committee to see if it is WORTHY.

Not sure if this one will or not.  There's no personal attacks here, just carrying on the dialogue.  I appreciate hearing about your "inside" scoops from Wisconsin.  I consider it biased data.  Don't you think a Packer fan is likely to tell you what you want to hear?

You want to hear that Cutler is the "Franchise" and major score.  The Packer fans are obliging your relatives by saying, "....oh, we are so scared...."

What they are really thinking about is, "....man, I remember that Monday Night Football game where Favre came in on the road in Denver and in one pass in OT, it was over, Cutler's team, Dead on Arrival...."

So no, real Packer fans are looking forward to the "Cutler" Era, or as I like to call it "Concannon II".

I just did some checking.  Concannon was 0-2 in 1967, 0-1 in 1968 (injury), 0-1 in 1969 (Bobby Douglass showed up, and 1-1 in 1970.

So career wise, 1-5 against the Packers.  So much for the JC first round, future "franchise QB".

The real question is who will the next Bobby Douglass be in 2011?

    Cheers

I would say any sensible Packer fan is not pleased that it appears that the Bears have picked up a franchise for the first time in over half a century.

But then again I feared the selection of Cade McNown too :)  And while Cutler has looked good and has a Pro Bowl under his belt, Derek Anderson can say the same.

Nobody really knows how Cutler will fit into the Bears offense which lacks WR's and is historically a disappointment.

And of course no trade is a guarantee of anything.  My favorite being the Vikings mortaging the future to guarantee a SB trophy with Herschel Walker.

So while all of the Bears fans can smile ear to ear and feel confident in success with their new toy, a realtively optimistic Packer fan can find several reasons to hope it blows up in their face, even while acknowledging that's not likely.

This is all assuming he stays healthy too.

Are Bears fans shaking with fright that the Packers have a quarterback that in his first year starting put up better numbers than Cutler?

Oh yes, Justin Harrell.  A steal like Grossman, Benson, Terrell, and all of the other 1st rounders not on the Bears anymore :)

Cutler does have some good credentials. But he certainly comes with baggage too. He's not a winner. He's never been to the playoffs. He choked last season by losing his last three games and blowing the division. And he's a big baby with an attitude problem. So yes, while there may be reason for Packer fans to be concerned about Cutler, there's also a fair amount of optimism that this is going to be a huge bust for the Bears.

Wow. They share the same initials. You are a genius. Thinking like this ought to nab you a job at MIT as an professor. I bet nobody else thought of that one. Hey! He shares the same initials as Jesus Christ, too! I bet he can raise the dead and heal the sick just like the original article! I guess there really is something to this "same initials" theory of yours.

Or maybe that's where the similarities end. You do know that Cutler has had a successful beginning of his career which Concannon never had, right? I didn't expect you to try anything like research a thought.

Facts aren't your strong suit. Wait a minute. Is this thread about Aaron Rodgers? I thought this was about Cutler. I'm not sure where Rodgers fits in in this argument. Can you enlighten me?

But anyway, yes he's a baby. And people were saying that long before he became a Bear. Even (dare I say) some of your own fellow fans declared him to be such - before he became a Bear of course. Now he's the second coming of Christ. And as I've already pointed out, Jesus sucked at football.

wardi,  you're comparison is nothing short of delusion, it's to justify your fear that the Bears have a better QB than your pathetic team.

When you talk about choking, you leave out simple facts as I mentioned, and I threw in Rodgers since it was about choking games away. If you think he's a baby, so be it, it has nothing to do with his abilities on the field. I hope that's simple enough for you to understand.
