Might as well be posted by a Bears fan

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted in here yet.

    http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/1889976,CST-NWS-pitts18.article

IF this is true, what the hell is football rivalry coming to? IF this is true, it's a truly disgusting display of football allegiance. IF this is true it's embarrassing to me as a Bears fan. This does not represent REAL Bears fans. IF this is true I hope they find the person responsible and put him away.

    1.   You are a Bears fan.  Why are you posting this in Rival Central?  Trying to talk trash with fans of your own team?

    2.  Why would this embarrass you as a Bears fan?  Out of the thousands and thousands of Bears fans, do you think he is representative of the fans, or of rivalries?  You said it is not, so why are you embarrassed by the act of one fool...assuming he even did it?

    Because you responded.

2009 Green Bay Packers finish 11-5, sweeping the Bears. Aaron Rodgers finishes season with higher QB rating than Jay Cutler, Bears finish no higher than 8-8.

Is Jay Cutler the next Uncle Rico?

    1950's 0 Championships, Bears Suck
1960's 1 Championships, Bears Suck, Packers 5 Championships
    1970's 0 Championships, Bears Suck
    1980's 1 Championship, Bears Suck
1990's 0 Championships, Bears Suck, Packers 1 Championship
2000's 0 Championships, Bears, still Sucking after all these years

In wardi's lifetime, Packers 6 Championships, Bears 2...Packers lead series by 15 games in wardi's lifetime....

    Cheers

He posted it because it's news. I saw the story myself yesterday and decided not to post it.

If this is true, it's very sad. But even as a rival fan, I know full well that this horrible person does not represent an entire fan base. And I defend the Bears fanbase in this regard just as I defend the Packers fanbase anytime I see a thread with a title like "Only in Wisconsin" or "Must be a Packer fan" which features an article about some Wisconsin resident who did something stupid.

It's news Dinky. Don't rip him for posting it. The fact that you're complaining about it indicates to me that you'd prefer that this story never got the light of day. And that tells me that YOU'RE the one who is embarrassed.

I was at the grocery store buying eight apples, and the clerk asked me if I would like a bag. And I said, "No, man, I juggle! But I can only juggle eight. If I'm ever here buying nine apples, bag 'em up!"

Re: Might as well be posted by a Bears fan

The fact that this guy was a Bear's fan is a immaterial.

IF this is true and PROVEN, the guy who did it is a criminal and complete a$$bag.

There are loser, criminal, a$$bag fans of every sports team in the world.

    There are Bears fans who:

    - have spent time in prison
    - volunteer at homeless shelters
    - beat their wives
    - donate millions of dollars to charity
    - routinely drive drunk
    - send care packages to troops in Iraq.

The point?  The only common thing is that they dig a football team.   Every team has all different types of followers.

And, not to excuse the behavior (IF it is true), but do we know for a fact that it was precisely 'because guy A was a Bears' fan and guy B was a Steelers fan'?   They were in a Kitty O'Sheas after the Bears game.  Ever been to Kitty's after a Bears' game.  EVERYONE is sh*tfaced.    Could have been just a stupid argument/bar fight thing.    Again, I'm not excusing the behavior, but I fine the story skeptical and frankly VERY lazy reporting:

    - no medical analysis/opinion by doctors to say if this is even possible.
    - no description of the assailants
    - the 'facts' are hearsay by the guy's relatives.   Not exactly objective there.  'relatives say he almost died', yet no comments/confirmation from the hospital itself.
    - no medical confirmation that the man IS in fact blind (outside of his story) and no discussion of what could have caused it, is it permanent, etc.
    - no comments by police
    - no comments by other bar patrons or bar staff
    - no discussion of what sort of  'toxic subtance' can do this.  Think of that, is there a specific toxic liquid (tasteless and odorless) that can be placed into a drink, given to a human being and cause blindness.   I might believe cardiac arrest or perhaps severe stomach problems, but blindness?  That seem pretty darn specific.
    - no discussion of the hows - so let's say such a substance exists.    Did the rogue Bear fan just happen to have a vial of 'ACME POISON' with a skull and crossbones, tucked in his jeans?   Or did the guy grab something from the bar?  The only thing I can think of would be some sort of cleaning fluid.   Good reporting would tell you to dig on that.  What sort of cleaning fluids would have been in the bar on the day and, if mixed with a beer, can they cause blindness in a 46 year old man.

IF this did happen, Bears fan guy needs to be brought to justice, but this whole story seems fishy and the reporting in the article doesn't help at all.   Guy gonna sue the bar perhaps?

Think of all the myriad times you've been at bars.  I'm 39 yrs old.  Grew up Wrigleyville, lived in Lincoln Park for 14 years.    And I went to college.  I probably couldn't count the number of times I've been in bars.   I've seen plenty of fights and seen my share of crazy stuff, but I've never heard of anything like this.  Again, if the guy truly has lost his sight, I feel bad for him regardless, but it just sound fishy.

I totally agree, Friday - there are a lot of details missing.  At best, it's horrible reporting and investigative journalism, and the guys really hurt in the way they say by the people they say.  At worst, somebody wanted a story to run with in their paper/on their site, so the facts be damned.

Even I, a Packers fan, say there is not enough information to make any decisions here. A Steelers fan, (They are known to be some of the worst, right up there with Philly fans), alleges a Bears fan tried to poison him. No proof it happened. For all we know the guy went back to his hotel room and downed some methyl alcohol, which gives the exact symptoms. Maybe he is just trying to get in the news like balloon boys dad, and did it to himself.
