    Dante Stallworth, anyone??

The Cleveland Browns terminated the contract of wide receiver Donte' Stallworth, the team announced Monday.
After a year-long suspension for killing a pedestrian while driving drunk, Stallworth was reinstated Sunday by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Goodell said Friday he met with Stallworth about a month ago, and the receiver is "in a better place than he was." Goodell said Stallworth recognized what he did wrong and has prepared himself to return to the NFL.

Stallworth, 28, was charged with DUI manslaughter March 14 in an early morning accident that killed 59-year-old Mario Reyes, a Miami construction worker who was on his way home.

Stallworth's blood-alcohol level after the crash was .126, well above Florida's legal limit of .08, according to results of a blood test.

In mid-June, Stallworth was given a 30-day jail sentence, of which he served 24 days, and reached an undisclosed financial settlement with Reyes' family. Two days after sentencing, the NFL suspended Stallworth indefinitely without pay.

Stallworth played just one season for the Browns after signing a seven-year, $35 million contract in 2008. That year he recorded 17 receptions for 170 yards in 11 games.

Monday's release officially makes Stallworth an unrestricted free agent.

    .....Anyone, anyone??

I would only be down for Stallworth if Benson was still on the team.  They could carpool into work together

I'm fairly certain he won't be carpooling with anyone..I'm no lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but I'm fairly certain when you run somebody over and kill them, you may lose your license for a stretch. Just saying.

    Re: Dante Stallworth, anyone??

Some will say that he doesnt deserve to play in the NFL again. I think that everyone deserves a second chance. Now that we got that out of the way:

Assuming that we are not going to bring in another veteran, I would at least bring him into training camp and see what he can do.

It would be nice to have a veteran to show these young guys how to run routes.

Not over ANY of our starting WRs.  He was vastly overpayed in CLE, and is extrememly overrated-not a etter starter than any of ours.  He averages a whopping 626 yards a season.

    Re: Dante Stallworth, anyone??

Who knows on this one? He seems to me to be a guy that has been sort of on the verge of being a number one, but could never actually be that number one. However, all the criticism levied at our receivers by a lot of people on this board is to the tune of "even our number 1 receiver would not be a number 2 on most NFL squads. Again, fence-sitting on this one.

Ok scratch the carpooling.  But maybe him and Benson could have went boating on Lake Michigan.

If he is willing to come here cheap, I say go for it. We have WR but having him would be good but not at the expense of being able to go out and acquire players in other areas of need.

Ok well if was are not looking for a game breaker, than Donte would be worth a look.  If we are looking for an Adam Archuletta on offense, then Donte would definitely be our guy.

I promise you however that he would not crack our starting lineup at WR.  Bennett is better than him IMO.

The thought of acquiring Stallworth needs more than just a normal facepalm.  We need to get animated in here

In my best John McEnroe voice - you can not be serious!

I can't think of a single reason to sign him. He was released by the Cleveland Browns. Let that sink in. The Browns are one of the few teams in the league that have more uncertainty at wide receiver than we do. And they let him go.

looking forward to the draft (the second day at least) with offensive line and safety my biggest wants.

He played well in N.O. when they had Brooks (terrible) at QB, played well next to T.O. in Philly, played well with the 16-0 Pats.  Even though I like the recievers we have I would give him a shot if he came cheap.  I wouldnt expect him to start though.

No. Thats about all I can say. Bringing in a guy to what take away snaps from our young guys who probably are better than this guy. Sure this guy may have experience on the field but we dont need him, especially with his off the field crap.
