Thought this needed it's own thread, sorry if it has been posted before. Barton had 34 reps and from what i've read is he is big and ripped for his weight.
Does anyone else think this guy is a perfect LG for us? I know it would be horrible to have 2 rooks starting at the left end, but he doesn't have to start right away. If Garza moved to LG we would have the worst run blocking left side in the league, so i think that's a bad idea. But I expect Barton to push St. Clair/Beekman/Metcalf/Oakley or whoever for the starting position there if given the shot.
Packer Fan: About time we get the sissy out of there. 16 years of interceptions. Don't let the door hit you on the way out Brett!
Packer Fan:................... I posted nasty stuff which included Man-porn.
JohnnyEnjoi65:most reps =/= strongest
true, he might even be THE strongest instead of the 3rd, not really sure.
DaBears01:then you must have read about the injuries. if he can stay healthy then he has a chance in my mind to be a very good guard maybe even fill in on the RT. you dont go to ohio st. and play as much as him and not be good. that foot injury he had can be problematic for guys his size but i hoping for the best with that one too
yeah, you are right. maybe the bears put him on the redshirt IR and that could benefit him the most. But i'm hoping he comes in TC 100% and pushes for that open spot. The injury you mentioned is why we got him in the 7th, and that's 1 reason i have expectations for the guy. Considering our depth on the line, Kirk has every right to take the LG spot and run with it.
JustWinBaby:Jarod Allen repped it 13 times. Should the vikings cut him?
probably. . .
malakai:How's his footwork? I'll take a guard that does 20 reps over a guard that does 40 if the guy doing 20 can actually get into position and move his man and the guy doing 40 can't.
DAAAAAABears:I think he will certainly develop into an OG for us and possibly eventually replace Tait at RT. I was hoping for Carl Nicks in the 5th but Chester Adams and Kirk Barton softened the blow. Both could be good OGs.
Well, as someone who has watched him and KNOWS him, he will be an asset. The injuries are minor and don't have long lasting problems written on them.
He is a fierce and top notch competitor as well as an awesome historian of the game. He loves football, its a family passion.
He is going to be a huge asset to the Bears. I hate the NFL(I'm from Cleveland what can I say) but will have to follow the Bears now!
He was an outstanding leader on the team and his teammates all respect him!
Yeah, all reports on him is that he had high chraracter, high work ethic, and loves football. He had some problems in some big games and there are injury issues but if he will do everything needed to make the team and contribute. He may never pan out because of injury or lack of talent but he won't bust because he didn't want it enough.
Awesome 7th round pick up by JA IMO.
EDIT: The good rep count suggests to me that he hits the weight room hard. He may not be the strongest but he is a worker.
I like this pick a lot. He is hard nosed, tough, a little nasty can handle some added weight, loves the game and was an anchor and 4 year starter on one of the best teams in the country.
I hope he does well.

Omeletpants:Bench pressing is highly overated as a football skill. Former world's strongest man, Bill Kazmaier, once tried out for the Packers to a lot of fanfare and it was a huge failure.
No No No...more reps = more skill
You had an awesome Mock draft. Are you really Mike Mayock?

That seemed to be a smart move, considering the right tackle was viewed as a middle-to-late-round selection had he opted to go pro. Voted a senior caption for the Buckeyes, his leadership helped a young OSU squad again advance to the national title game before falling to LSU this time.
Prepared for the NFL this time, bag packed, he flipped the TV on to watch the second day of the draft and wait for his name to be called.
Shortly before 7 p.m. Eastern time, his name flashed on the screen and he found himself named as the last member of the Chicago Bears’ 2008 draft class.
It was a little bit lower than he was expecting to fall, to say the least.
“I heard on Friday that probably the latest I would go would be the fifth round,” he told BuckeyeSports.com. “That was from a pretty prominent scout. He told my agent that. That was what I was thinking would be my floor and then anything above that would be great.
“That just proves that you can’t really look at any draft projections or anything.”
Sitting at home, Barton spent the day alternating between watching the draft and doing anything else to keep his mind off of it. The situation was further complicated by a steady stream of phone calls from NFL representatives throughout the afternoon.
As the shadows grew longer on the walls, the tone of those phone calls changed.
“Teams would call and say, ‘We have a couple picks coming up,’ ” Barton said. “Then towards the sixth round a lot of teams will call and say, ‘Would you want to come here as an unsigned guy, as an undrafted free agent?’ They were recruiting me.
“It makes it hard because you’re sitting by the TV and a team’s ready to make a pick and all of a sudden your phone rings and it’s a strange number and you think this could be the call and it was just someone checking up on me.”
Aside from a few former coaches sending messages of support, Barton said he received few messages from friends and former teammates
